Please stop deleting posts

To the site owner and admin staff:

I understand that things can get out of line, but deleting posts and whole threads is almost never the answer. If something is inappropriate, warn the poster or lock the thread. But please stop disappearing posts and threads.

If the current moderator staff doesn't have the time to police threads and nip potential trouble in the bud, please consider adding more moderators. The heavy-handed deletions make this a less enjoyable place to hang out, and knowing that any post I make could be deleted without warning or explanation actually makes me less likely to care about the content of my posts.

Thanks for your attention.

So making a thread calling them out is a solution? I feel like you could easily just of pmed someone about this issue. I doubt you have been an admin/mod on a large forum site because in many cases deleting is the only solution.

Also, if your posts and threads are getting deleted then maybe you should look into what you are posting.

I'm not calling anybody out, I'm asking site ownership to change their policies to what I think would make this a better board. I'm doing it in public because I think that'll encourage commentary and discussion. I'm well aware that some posts have to be deleted (spammers come to mind), I'm fairly sure I mentioned that in my post. I just think that too many are deleted here.

The only posts of mine that have been deleted were collateral damage when whole threads were canned. I'm not a target of any moderator action, and I'm not griping. I'm proposing a change that I think would improve the board.

Keep in mind also that Moderators may not be the ones deleting posts or threads. Any user can delete any of their posts at any time and if that is the first post in the thread, the entire thread disappears for good. I'd say it's more the users deleting themselves rather than the mods deleting with out warning.

In a way I'm with you on this, KidV, and it's funny this thread comes up because I noticed a few "changes" and was asking myself "WTH happened here?".

I realize I have not enhanced this community whatsoever based on my limited time here. I also don't have the free time to hang out here all day so I can work to enhance this community on a daily basis but to log in after a few days away and to notice bannings and threads that no longer exist is kinda perplexing and saddening at the same time, all things considered.

No matter who is deleting posts and threads, people aren't banning themselves which, in my mind at least, raises the question of when someone gets banned is it automatically a permanent vacation or will they be back? I never came under the impression that the ban hammer freely swings on a forum of this level and with that said, I'd hate to think that members get perma-banned for silly nonsense likely due to winter and/ or cabin fever. I don't know the details and really I don't care to know.

Also, I frequent quite a few motorcycle forums and most of the stuff I've encountered here since I signed up pales in comparison to the crap that goes on for 6-7 months at a time on, say, the local-to-me forums which furthers my thoughts and questions however, please don't take this post as a complaint as it is anything but. I am doing nothing more than putting up some obsevations as a newb in addition to voicing questions. I won't lose sleep if my questions go unanswered but I am hoping that the Mod and Admin team considers why posts and threads such as these are being put up.

All in all I have greatly enjoyed this forum in the few months I've been here. I've also appreciated the 97% maturity level as well as the plethora of 4Runner information which has already helped this member greatly. I only hope that things aren't going into crazy mode while members and threads continue to get slashed.

If the Mod/ Admin team needs extra hands to monitor things, I gladly offer my time to cover the night shift.

:)
