Plug and play used NAV for 05 SR5?

Hi guys (and gals),

I've seen a couple items on ebay and craigslist (and actually at a local junkyard) where they have the NAV units from 4Runners available (usually the Limited model). I believe all the Limited models carry the JBL soundsystem. Mine is not.
The question is: can I just buy one of the NAV units and plugin to my SR5?
Will the steering radio controls still work?
Or is the NAV unit just one piece and I will need the 6CD changer for the DVD and have to purchase that as well and run the cable to the back?

I wouldn't mind buying aftermarket, but I am electronically challenged! If it's a matter of plugging in harnesses I don't mind, but I don't have enough vaseline for what Best Buy charges to install (still want the steering radio controls to work which seems like it costs another $200 in accessories and another $200 in installation). Not comfortable cutting the dashboard or anything like that.

Summation: If you don't have JBL amp, then NO, it's not plug N play (will not work). Most of Toyota NAVs are digital, b/c you don't have the JBL, you need an "analog" NAV (which were available in the Camry and some RAV4s). Aftermarket NAVs are easier to do and offer more options (probably cost less too). When my factory NAV dies, I'm totally going aftermarket.

Hi Cookie, thanks for the quick response! Yes, I've been clicking around and looking, but it seems like 9 out of 10 posts are for the JBL version, I have the lower level SR5.
Can anyone recommend a good aftermarket place around southern NJ (zip code 08054) to do the install? Best Buy is exorbidant, I stopped by one place in Philly, and to install an Eclipse model (I think was around $599) they wanted over a thousand with the install, which sounded a little rich for me. If that's the going rate, then I guess I just have to save up and prep for it, but does $400 sound high for installation, or is that inline?

If you decide aftermarket and feel you are "electronically challenged", I would recommend going online (go to Pioneer/JVC/Kenwood etc websites), pick out a model you like, head to crutchfield (see if it will fit your runner) and purchase from them. It won't be crazy cheap, but you do get instructions on how to tear apart your interior and it will be plug N play. Don't forget to get a "module" so your steering wheel buttons will work. They will recommend (or automatically supply) wire harnesses and any adapter if its necessary. Also, with Crutchfield, you get on the phone instructions in case you mess up or need help with something. I used them and are very pleasant to deal with. Professional installation?? $1000-$400 to install a radio that is very easy to install? Most shops charge something like $100/hour. Screw that. I understand that is their business, but its very easy to do. Of course, if you do not have the time to do it, then by all means head to a professional. Try to stay away from Best Buy b/c I've seen too many horror stories.
