Police package 4th gens?

Hi all,

Not new to using forums so I have done a bit of googling and using the search button, but haven't found much.

Either or, I have a 3rd gen currently that is getting really old (lots of rust and 274,000 on the clock). I tried looking up if there were police spec versions but came up empty handed. I visited the station and besides a brush guard and lights, I can't tell if anything is beefed up. I asked and no one knew either, they just said they were 2wd V8 versions.

Anyway, does anyone know anything about if there are police spec 4th gens around? There's a few floating around for sale, if so and they're modified, I WANT ONE! :)

Alright that's it, thanks!

EDIT: Pictures added of the wiring.

One thing its definitely gonna come with is the piss beaten out of it. Not sure an ex-police vehicle or any "fleet" vehicle is a good choice, nobody cares when their not paying the repair bill.

^^I agree, but also, there's two things about where I live that make it such an attractive offer.

1. Well maintained cars are so hard to find with records. These have records because of being a fleet vehicle.

2. The price. They're selling for 1/2 of the average price of a 4Runner in comparable condition, so even if the trans and or engine lets go, I'm way ahead still.

I'm going to go check it out again today and compare pictures to see if there are any differences.

I find the idea intriguing and possibly worth while. Make sure you check these out well. If you happen to find one in decent shape, I say go for it! Sounds like a killer potential deal, or a potential ripoff. Could definitely go either way.

I also would be interested in some pics, for curiosity sake.

Crazy! I didnt even know 2wd V8s existed on the 4th gens? Atleast you know theyve never been takin off road haha. Unless there was a shortcut through the woods to the donut shop....................

I'll get some pics when I get a chance, sorry didn't go today, got busy. I have my eye on a silver Sport (there's a red one and a white one too), so I'll try and go tomorrow and look. I'll get the light pics.

I'm currently sitting in my 2003 2wd v8. Not much of an off roader but I can still have some fun in mud as long as I can get pulled out

In addition to not wanting one because of the abuse they get, I wouldn't want a used police vehicle because of all the crap they mount inside. Your interior will look like swiss cheese. Not to mention the removal of the decals and lights on the outside. There are much better options when getting something used.

I'm kind of interested in pictures of it with all the lights on. Mind taking or getting a couple for us to see?

Im fitting my 4runner with emergency lighting and I'd would pay to see these pictures. I've only found few different runners with police / emergency lighting. If you could take pictures of the lights and switch boxes I'd take you out for a steak

Hi all,

Either or, I have a 3rd gen currently that is getting really old (lots of rust and 274,000 on the clock). My mother in law is a retired police officer and she happened to mention that the police department is getting rid of their 03' police fleet. I tried looking up if there were police spec versions but came up empty handed. I visited the station and besides a brush guard and lights, I can't tell if anything is beefed up. I asked the officers and they didn't know either, they just said they were 2wd V8 versions.

Anyway, does anyone know anything about if there are police spec 4th gens around? If so and they're modified, I WANT ONE! :)

Alright that's it, thanks!

Just moved from Oahu to the "maindland". There seem to be a lot of 4runners being used by the HPD... I always assumed that there was a stipend program to reimburse the officer for his/her car payment (just due to the variety in the fleet). This would be a good question for roobz1

Would have taken pics sooner but wasn't able to get out there til today. Took home a silver 03', absolutely love it.

I apologize as a lot of the pics aren't really great, but I did get to watch/help with the entire removal process. I had a phone cam and not an iPhone so pics...sorry, not great.

Pretty much it was run like stereo wire, the strobe lights and the blue/red lights were in the original oem reflectors and they had a power ballast mounted to the frame which upped the voltage to 250. The front power supply powered all the lights on the truck. The wires were 12-16 gauge (depending on which lights) and were buried under the carpet and such.

Siren

Radio connectors

Rear bumper strobe wiring

Wires for the rear radio were just under the seat.

Rear light

Wires to the light after removal

Radio wires

Some buried under the carpet

Okay, there you go.

Also I inquired, the police 4 runner is just bone stock, no upgraded cooling system or anything like the Crown Vics or Impalas.

I couldn't keep them, they were the police station's. The reason I helped with the removal process is that I heard that the radio shops have a tendency to simply chop everything off, meaning that had I bought the truck after it had been worked from the radio shop, I could potentially had a really hacked up truck so I took the time to make sure nothing got ripped up, bent, snapped off, etc.
