Polish Rims

4 Runners come with nice rims, but what about turning them chrome? Denalis, Escalades, etc have really nice polished chrome rims. Has anyone tried doing this to the rims on their 4Runner? It's either this or painting them gunmetal for me so I want to know how the polish would work out.

Even with polish, you'd need to send them off to have them chromed. You can polish them up, but they'll look like they do now, but cleaner. It's not just a polished metal that shines like that, it's a coating over the metal. Polished aluminum won't just look like chrome. In fact, if you wear off the protective coating, you better keep them clean as it will get dirtier much faster than with the clearcoat on them. It's not cheap to have them chromed either.

On ebay someone sells them.... pretty expensive tho' . Maybe it would be cheaper if they are willing to chrome yours.

Polishing, and chrome are 2 different things

To give you an idea, the lip on this rim is polished aluminum. It doesn't look like chrome at all. There's no clearcoat or anything on the lip, just polished metal.

Wow, those on eBay are expensive. At that price, you should just buy after market rims. I think I'm just going to go ahead and get them painted gunmetal, keeping the lip silver.
