The fake hood scoop was one of several reasons I didnt buy the TRD ORP. The difference between the SR5P and the ORP is about $1380.

A functional hood scoop on a 4Runner would only serve to introduce dirt and water to the engine compartment. No thanks. Vehicles with functional scoops often have intercoolers that require the airflow. In today's world, naturally-aspirated engines can usually get more than enough air without a scoop, the exceptions being large-displacement heavy-breathers that benefit from the cooler air.
As for me, I like the looks, too. Plus the 10 additional horsepower and 7% increase in coolness factor don't hurt.

I have a 2020 Pro and I agree.
Traded in a 2013 Trail that, in my opinion, was the best looking 4Runner that’s ever been made.

I also agree. If I hadn't gotten Jeep fever and bought a '20 Rubicon, I would still have my '10 Trail. But when I regained my senses and got rid of the Rubicon, I bought the closest thing I could find...'20 ORP. And now my money is going into making it more like my '10... adding sliding cargo tray, the old Trail roof rack, etc. I'm even contemplating the wheels because I think they look better than current. If there was some way to change out the front and rear bumpers, headlights, add black flares, black mirrors, and black door handles I would do that too. Oh, and don't forget the dash display. But I digress... hood scoop, fake or not, makes the vehicle.:rofl:

Interestingly enough, if you look at many of new \recent models of SUVs and trucks you can see that many car makers are start adding black fender flares, back bumper covers, black body cladding, etc. and it seems they all do it now (Toyota, Chevy, Ford, etc..) so I guess history always repeats itself even when we are talking about how cars look (like in the phrase: “new” is the forgotten “old”…
Of course making vehicle shape (look \form) is very delicate task, and I just think in 2010-13 4Runner Trail that task was done with grate balance and taste… let’s just hope that Toyota will be able to reverse the current course back to 2010-13 glory days when they will release 6 gen 4Runner... :tea:

With some smart shopping you can buy all the parts you need from Toyota for under $600. Then get it painted.
Part numbers are listed.
You can be smart and buy during sales from multiple websites over the course of time and lower the cost even more.
A few of us have done it, including myself.

Unfortunately, I won't be of much help to you.
The hood was sourced privately through kijiji. I've been scouring a hood for almost a year and it's the only one I've seen being sold privately. Super rare find imo.
The hood scoop, I sourced from ebay. There's plenty on there and not hard to find.
The paint for $300 is the most insane part. I used to race motorcycles and fellow motorcyclists always have hookups for paint since we crash a lot. I just called a friend up and he referred me to someone.

Wouldn't swap mine either, and I haven't even noticed any glare off the scoop.
But I also only wear Polarized sunglasses while driving(especially at night), so I never catch any glare.

Yeah it's a good thread. I'm sorta resigned that I'm going to have to go that route. Honestly, it's just the paint that is making me drag my feet. I've even ordered several white vinyl samples from different companies to see which is most compatible with SW, and I know I could do that job myself for $60. But then the underside would be primer only, so I scrapped that idea a while ago. I also thought about renting professional painting equipment and painting myself, but tossed that idea for obvious reasons. There are few shortcuts to glory. Regardless, I'll still probably ask the next white 4Runner owner I see filling up at a gas station. You never know!

My serious reply is that I wouldn't do it for cheap. Knowing my luck and how things like this generally don't work out for me, swapping a hood would result in something not lining up properly, or the color being off just enough, or some incurable rattle, or most likely some stupid ass dent/scratch in a highly visible area would happen during the swap... It would drive me nuts. The cost to put myself through that, knowing something will not be "right" with mine after the swap - it would be a ridiculous amount. Basically, enough to cover the cost of trading it in on a new one, because I know that's what I'd wind up doing within a year after the swap. So you'd be better off to just trade and get the new one (with a scoop) for yourself.
