I had a 2018 off road. Traded it in for a Jeep Gladiator. Immediately regretted my decision and waited about 1 year and got a 2020 4Runner sr5 with the upgraded radio. I wanted another off road but due to covid and the supply out there it would’ve been another 6-8 week wait (the dealer I went to was giving me the best trade in for my jeep). Did I need the off road. No. I wanted the 4wd lever and the crawl control and all that. With that being said. I never used crawl control in my 2018 off road. I don’t go on trails and off road other then some logging roads, driving in the snow and driving on the beach. The SR5 fits my needs perfectly.

I purchased my MT19 Limited 2/20. There were three used ones I was looking at, but this one had 2900 miles on it and was traded in for a VW Atlas. (The story goes that the older gentleman regretted his 4Runner purchase decision & wanted something "fancier"). The company my wife words for does internet photography for the dealer group that took this vehicle in, and I was able to purchase it for $6500 under sticker, so for me it was a no-brainer.
As cool as the TRD models are, my 49 y/o self does enjoy the interior, stereo, and sunroof etc on the Limited, and full time 4wd for the area I live in is just fine. Mountain snow or light trails is really all this vehicle is likely to see.
That being said - to answer the question - I would still buy the Limited again - if I was looking to spend a bit less, second choice would likely be the SR5 Premium.

I would consider a Limited for the leather ventilated seats, dual AC controls and better sound system. On the off-road capability side, the Limited has the lockable Torsen limited slip transfer case and ATRAC. The lockable Torsen limited slip transfer case is better in off-road turns when you are running 4WD and traction happens to be good (no drive line binding) and if the ATRAC works very effective, no need for locking rear differential otherwise can add a rear locker later. Not sure I need or want the Crawl Control and Multi-Terrain Select missing from the Limited compared to the TRD Off-Road or TRD Pro.

I went with the TRD Pro because I was not interested in doing any further suspension mods or lifts or bigger tires. Also I was not really looking for the best value, but instead just got the trim level I wanted. After 6 months no regrets and I would do the exact trim level again.

Same here. Didn't need the off road capabilities of the TRDOR but wanted 4 wheel drive for winter use, with the softex seats and moonroof.

I'm curious what all these newer models/trims have that's significant over what I have in my 2016 Trail Edition with KDSS. It has craw, Atrac, Multi Terrain Select, rear locking diff. but no heated seats or sunroof.

Limited Nightshade. I wanted full time 4 wheel drive and the extra comforts it comes with. It's my daily driver and I love it. It's very comfortable. I wouldn't trade it for the other trims.
I wasn't looking for nightshade but I appreciate that it blacks out the chrome and gets rid of the fake wood. I wish it wasn't white though...it looks like a panda lol. I'd say I'm doing pretty good if all I'd swap is the body paint.

Nothing significant, at least IMHO. I have a newer model than yours and opted for no KDSS and no sunroof. About the only thing I really wish I had was a bigger oem touch screen.
That’s a pretty unique trim and color combo. I’m sure the white pops.
Might have to change your handle to “Prowl”.

With the locker and ATRAC you can pretty much go anywhere. I was hestitant about the softex seats but I'm really liking the durability of them right now. After almost 3 years they still look new with very little maintenance.

SR5. I like to sit upright, and it was the only trim available at the time without a sunroof, thus giving me adequate headroom. And it can go anywhere I want to go (some very tough FS roads and the like, but not serious rock crawling). Wife also preferred the suspension for on road.
Too right. Or Jazz because I'm jamming to these JBL speakers.
The color combo does pop. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw it in person. The white and black paint have that sparkle effect. Inside the cabin some of the black trim sparkles as well. The color isn't as boring as I thought it would be. It's growing on me.
Your best bet would be to watch youtube videos and compare to what you have.

I've previously owned a 5th gen Trail Edition and SR5 and just recently picked up a '21 Limited and absolutely love it.
Considering that 99.9999% of my driving is on-road having heated / cooled leather seats, auto climate control, and the awesome JBL sound system make for a much better experience.
Not to mention I also like having full-time 4wd. It definitely gives the truck a more planted feeling to me, really reminds me a lot of my 100 series Land Cruiser I used to have.

If considering a 4R, I do think the ORP is the move followed by the SR5P. I went first with an ORP that sadly did not make it 600 miles before it got crushed by a Kia Forte running a red light.
When replacing it, I got exceptionally lucky that the dealer I got the ORP had mercy on me and tracked down a KDSS Venture. Not an easy thing in Northern CA when paying sticker.
That said, I do really miss the moonroof as it rarely gets above 70 in the Summer here.
