POLL: Who Does Your Preventative Maintenance?

Curious how many of us use the dealer for service, or a 3rd party auto service company like Sears, Pep Boys, etc., or do our own maintenance in the driveway.

P.S. I have taken mine to the dealership thus far.

Myself. The only exception for me is coolant changes and alignments. I don't trust a DIY alignment and with coolant it's just easier to pay for a flush.

I always do my own work, hell I even do other peoples work for them for a fee usually but I'm half the price of cheaper shops. The only thing I would take to a shop is an alignment and a/c work, mainly because it's tedious and I hate it. Anything else I do.

I do it myself but I cut all the upc's off the boxes and keep the receipts stapled to each interval page for proof

I do most of it but for the major stuff I use my old Mitsubishi mechanic who used to sponsor my Eclipse in my drag race days and he's real good and continues to give me deals.

I must qualify my vote. I do all work myself unless there is a coupon or other that passes my "dirty hands" tolerance level.

If I can give someone my oil (amsoil) and oil filter (wix) and pay them less than $20 dollars to get their hands dirty (or keep mine clean), I am happy to part with my $20.

Local repair shop

I use a local shop, that does a great job; at a fraction of what dealers charge. They even informed me of the 30K spark plug change. I just had assumed they were 100k plugs. When I have an oil change, they check all the things one would and should expect: hoses, belts, brake lines, muffler and tailpipe, etc., etc..

My friends say I didn't buy a house, I bought a 2 car garage. It just happened to come with a house.



And they're right.

I use a local mechanic who runs his own small shop to do all my maintenance and repairs. It's great having a relationship with one guy who knows my car, what has already been done, what to watch, what to fix now.

He only works on Toyotas so he has seen and done everything.

I change my oil & filters & diffs fluid. Everything else goes to a good bud of mine that's a Toyota tech.

ASE Certified A/C, Brakes, and Steering and Suspension, so I do it all myself. If not in the driveway, then in our shop at school. My favorite is the alignment rack = $$$.
