Polyurethane Body Mounts without Body Lift

It seems my body mounts are not quite... there anymore.

A few have appeared to have disintegrated.

It definitely shows that my body has some movement over the frame, especially after the CBI rear bumper installation.

The edges on the bumper rub the flares when flexed, as well as the body. The passenger's side of the bumper hit the body hard enough to dent and chip off paint. Here's the amount of gap that has to be compromised for that to happen:

The flares rubbed the powdercoat off of the bumper when they managed to touch. I put a piece of soft velcro on either side. You can also see on the inside of the gap that the bumper rubbed off the paint a little.

I tried 4Crawler, who have a lot of info on these bushings, but they're not available I guess. Anyone have poly body mounts without a body lift?

That's normal. The body mounts by the doors are supposed to look like that (like only 1/2 there). Mine look the same. Your body isn't shifting, the CBI flexes the frame enough to move + or - ~.5". Mine does it too.

Brian has it right. My rear bumper has dented the hatch from flexing/ moving. Its just something you have to get use to. Slider do the same thing when you slam them. You would be surprised how far they can flex up with the weight of the truck on them.

Yeah, I've seen his bumper flex the frame and hit the body too when we were out at Cougar Butts.

I just had the poly mounts kit from 4Crawler installed by my local shop (for a 0" lift--I'm Mr. White Bread) but he did the center mounts by the door a little different than the original "missing look", as in he kind of made it with no big missing space. Now I'm worried.

i was under the impression that the body was supposed to move like that, to prevent damage. my rear bumper is close, and i can see where i have a little rubbage too. even my arb up front has the same issues, as well as sliders on the pinch weld. its whatever.

I have the same issue with my CBI - its too damn heavy!

I went ahead with a 1" body lift to try to get the distance great enough to not have to worry about it. I'll post some pics when I get it back from an alignment, today.

I hear a clanking noise back there, so really got tired of that.

One more thing: I would think that we would want those mounts to be flush and tight and not jumping around. I know the center one is an odd-ball, but wth wouldn't we want these rubber fittings to be up on the underside of the mount - there is already plenty of flex IN the rubber itself. Am I missing something? I'll let you know how mine feels with the lift as it has been tightened down so the poly sits on top the rubber and they are cinched up with the bottom of the mount.

So you have your center one done up tight without the gap? That's how mine look after a poly mount installation, and I'm worried that without the gap there are going to be problems.

No - not the center one, but all the rest. The pics CoB posted look like his rear end mounts have fallen or something. I might be looking at it wrong.

Mine are like COBs as well. I think it maybe so your body flexes rather than twisting permanently. But I could very well be extremely wrong. Just a guess.

Right, so it would pivot flex at the center. I wonder how bad it is not to have them that way--my garage went with his professional opinion and Energy Suspension instructions, I guess, but the stock way obviously made sense to 4Runner engineers.

Pretty sure I hear mine bang when I drive down rough roads. But I am also so loaded down with stuff can't tell what it is exactly.

They could always take them out and cut them a bit. With a bandsaw or something.

Yay search. I was this close to asking for spacer measurements, after I noticed that my body mounts under the B-pillar look like this:

Glad to know there is no need to fix this.
