Poor Cruise Control

I'm not sure if my 2002 4runner is acting normal or not. While running at speeds around 75-78 mph my 4runner likes to hunt through gears even on fairly small hills. All I know is that is is extrememly annoying. Sometimes the rpm sky rocket and I end up being slung shot over the hill at 85 mph. I even got a ticket for it. It is also killing my gas mileage and probably taking a toll on my transmission.

My runner seems that it is either very underpowered or something is set wrong. Is this normal? What can be done about it?

it defenitly seems like it is underperforming. I can't imagine any manufacturer making a car this underpowered. This problem is so annoying that if I can't find a way to fix it I'll probably be considering a new car.

alright, I removed the sensor and found it to be pretty clean. There might be a very small amount of build up but nothing that I would consider to be "crud". I'm almost certain that it isn't the problem but I'll try cleaning it anyway...thanks for the advice...any more?

this is pretty much my first car...my dad drives a toyota land cruiser. I understand the 4runner might not drive as nicely as my dad's car but this is rediculous. I live in kansas, right in the middle of the plains, and it can't handle the hills here. I can't imagine living in a hilly area. It would drive me crazy.

I'm just guessing toyota would never produce a car that would perform like this...that is why I'm guessing something is wrong.

I also think it is doing some major damage to my transmission.

take it to a dealership, man.

whoever you bought it from at least.

you dont have specific symptoms so its hard to target the issue.
