poor gas mileage after servicing

Guys,

I had recently changed my engine oil (high mileage castrol 5w-30). My rig has 25k miles on it , had also changed spark plugs,oil filter and airfilter and cleaned the MAF sensor too.

Now my truck started giving me low gas mileage like 11-12 where as it used give me 14-16 in the city .

Can you tell me any ideas what would be worng?

Nothing you had done would of had a great impact like that. Most of that stuff being done at 25k was nice prevention that you do on new cars.


Dirty air filters and mafs, fouled plugs can in combo reduce MPG. So, assuming they did everything correctly; you would not see this decrease. What that means is that there is probably another contributing factor. Your tires are low, you have been a heavy footed driver this past week. Something.

Did you do all of this work? how long has it been since you have done this? Was the vehicle reset, battery pulled or unhooked? reset fuel calculator? If you reading off the lieometer that is prob the issue.

i have reset the mpg meter and i had some mechanic do all the work.

I wouldn't worry about it. The lieometer is really just an average.. give it a bit. As long as the vehicle is driving as it should, your meter is just re-calibrating.
I wouldn't waste too much attention on it anyway. Hand calculation at every tank is a better way. I have a flip book and I just keep track.

But yes, sudden changes in MPG are an indicator something is up. So if I start to see over a few tanks that my MPG is off, I know I have something up.

+1 on just giving it a little time, I just got new Cats and exhaust on my car and it said 12mpg city for the past 2 weeks, it just now began to stabilize at around 17-18mpg city. (plus that first week I was FLOORING it!!)
