Poor reception on AM with Nav

I have the stock Toyota Navigation/JBL system. I've recently traded my 2004 with JBL to move to my current V8 2005 with the Nav unit. I'm getting much poorer reception with the current Nav unit on AM. I cannot hear stations that I could clearly hear before. I really can't tell about FM because I don't listen to it much. I have the Diversity antenna, whatever that is. Anybody have any ideas about how to improve reception? Is this inherent in the Nav unit? Any idea what's wrong?

Tarheel, Could you explain just how you upgrade the ground? Bigger wire? Different attaching location? I appreciate the suggestion, I just don't know enough about the unit to understand.

i would assume he ment just run another wire from a good ground point to the frame of the radio or to the wire that is used as ground, try to keep the wire as short as possible. I would assume his logic would be since the navi unit is drawing more current it could be that the ground isn't good enough anymore?

am reception is picked up through ground. On aftermarket radios when we try and enhance the quality of am, we attach a wire to the hole on the back of the radio used for securing the radio in displays, and extend it to towards the outside of the vehicle.

Thanks Tarheel, My nav unit is the stock Toyota OEM E7005, but I assume the extension of the ground idea would work whether aftermarket or stock. Do you reattach the extended ground whereever you run it? Any place better or worse than others, such as into the engine compartment?
