Pop while turning

Pop sound up front when turning steering wheel at low speed or standing still. Any ideas what makes those pop sounds?

Upper or lower ball joint or both. I have a flashlight with a really strong magnet attached to the frame or where ever, I tape my phone to it running video. Point to the upper or lower joint, run the T4R back and forward in the driveway using the brakes hard. Review video....

Could also be the CV axle but Id start with the joints.

I have same noise on mine. usually when I turn slightly to back into the driveway. I've checked the ball joints in the suggested manner, wheel off ground and grab wheel top/bottom and try and get some play, but it seems good to me. I guess I'll wait it out. The lowers are on my relatively new 1Aauto LCAs and the uppers are SPC, probably 3 years old, I don't off road so they've had a pretty easy life.

With the wheel off the ground like that the strut spring applies tension to the joint so you may not be getting true results. If you do the same thing but use a block under the LCA then lower the car slightly on to that block that will take some tension out and allow the movement you are looking for. Depending on your spring rate and weight of your tire/wheel combo you might have play but won't find it unless you unload the joint. These ball joints are too small for these vehicles plus add in the crappy replacement parts available today, these joints need a lot of attention. I buy the most expensive greasable joints available and I'm still amazed at how fast they wear out. I'm off road a fair amount. But I also have a Mac Tools ball joint press (BJ7025M) so it's not all that bad changing them, about two hours or so.

CV axle is out of question due to the fact it makes noise standing still and just turning the wheel. I'll check ball joints as suggested earlier and replace outer tie rod ends because I've some on hand and originals have 90K miles on them with bigger than stock tires used.

I had a clicking noise after replacing the upper BJs. Using the magnetic camera trick I found both my lower control arm bushings toasted so check those too. Drive back and forward then use the brakes hard. These are hard to find with the wheel off the ground also. You need the momentum and the weight of the truck when applying the brakes quickly to move those bushings if they are toasted. Bon chance....(good luck).
