Popping when turning sharply

I have a 2003 4Runner Sport (V6) and hear a "POPPING" sound when I make a sharp right hand turn (on the left side of the truck).

Is that the XREAS system or is something broken? Doesn't do it on left hand turns.

I have the same popping noise, not too sure whether it's the left or right side though. I just learned not to make sharp turns. :gaptooth:
 
i dont know much about the new rigs, do ou guys have limited slip diffs? my 3rd gen will occasionally pop as the diff "slips" in a tight turn on pavement

It's not the diff(s). Our 2wd 2003 does it too on tight (i.e. at the steering lock) low speed turns. We don't have limited slip.

It sounds like something is binding then popping loose. My old 1981 and 1991 Toyota pickups made the same noise on tight turns.
 
Mine does it every morning before the fluids are warmed up. I back out of the garage and then make a right turn. I get the studder/popping feeling through the steering wheel. If I've been driving the 4runner and it is warmed up and then I back out of the garage later in the day "NO" studder/popping. I figure it is a limited slip fluid that needs to warm up. I experienced the samething with a Dodge 1ton dually from the rearend until the fluid warmed up. I figure I will ignore this "problem" until I have the front and rear diff's fluid changed by the dealer at 15K miles. If it continues and seems like a problem I figure I have 60K miles of warranty to have this addressed. I really don't think it is a problem, just the nature of a AWD vehicle. Anyone else notice this???
 
My dad's Tahoe did that. Got worse and did it in all types of turns. As it turns out, he needed the whole rear end replaced. This is one of the reasons I bought a Toyota.

I had this same popping problem but then I lubed my driveshaft and the popping went away. I highly recommend lubing your shafts first.

ok. i took it to the dealer today and they said that they couldn't duplicate the problem. i would ride in the car with the tech if i was there in time but it was closing already so just took it back. i'll take it again tom. i was wondering where the actual tsb is so that i can take it to them in just in case. thanks.
 
Same thing happened to me, I have to go for a ride with the tech when i bring it back next week. ARGGG PITA And im trying to just find the tsb cause the other 2 TSBs i brought it in for i was able to just tell them whats wrong and told them the tsb number and they did it no questions asked. This is going to be a whole damn process.

Do you have a copy of the whole TSB that you could display? I don't think this is what I am experiencing since mine is more like a studder that is only there when the fluids are cold. If everything is warmed up it works fine.
 
My '94 Runner was making this same sound and in the end, a little greese on the stearing stops made all the difference. No more "clunk" sound when turning.
