Don't know if it was posted before, but I saw the article. Check this one out. This one is new to me --- Four Wheeler of the Year Award! Toyota 4Runner: 2010 Four Wheeler of The Year | Reviews Blog & Opinions at Four Wheeler Magazine
on a related note to the previously linked Four Wheeler post, i find it really lame that Toyota was/is pushing marketing-speak like this, "Interestingly, the MSRP of the most popular selling 4Runner, the SR5 4x4 V-6, will remain the same as the previous generation at $30,915, even though it receives more than $1,700 in added equipment." (from this post and i also recall having read it in a Toyota press release somewhere else.)

in the context of this the whole "$1700 in added equipment" schpiel rings pretty hollow. there have certainly been additions, but there have been subtractions as well and Toyota would have consumers believe that's not the case. i can certainly understand why, but it's just not true.

If you're Toyota, would you issue a press release that states "We've added $1,700 in equipment but we removed a bunch of other features! Buy this truck today!" Of course not.

My disappointment is with the magazines and other media outlets that just parrot the press release without any real thought or analysis. I don't need Four Wheeler to repeat the press release. I can read the PR just fine. I expect them to go beyond the PR and mention that the $1,700 in added equipment was balanced by the removal of some 4th Gen equipment -- auto climate control, in-glass antenna, etc.

I've noticed the same thing about a lot of magazines' reviews. They simply restate whatever PR materials the manufacturer provided to them on the press junket to drive the new model.

That's why I stopped subscribing to Motor Trend, Car & Driver and others...
