Portable amber chase light setup

As we all know, driving in a pack on loose dirt during the day can make for near zero visibility and I have had a close call or two when the pack had to suddenly stop. I wanted to rig up a amber chase light but I did not want to have to hack up anything and I do not need any more circuits or switches. I came up this this little portable setup that cost around $65. It takes seconds to setup, is wirelessly controlled from a little fob, has a few different modes, and is plenty bright. They way it sits it does not effect the departure angle so it won't get ripped off on the trail.

Good idea but I would rather the light be higher. Say on the rack. Dust will be dispersing more up there then just coming off the tire down low and you will be seen better.

I wonder if it would be possible to do something similar but mount it on the inside of the rear window with suction cups or whatever and then power it off the 12v outlet in the back.

Would there be too much reflection off the inside of the rear window? Make it too distracting for the driver?

I was thinking about plugging it in the back 12v outlet then running it to the top of the truck on the roof rack or with magnets (and thin felt pads). I only see myself running this when its very dusty. I wouldn't want it on when driving on pavement.

That would be more ideal but it would require getting power up there and another mounting system. I just throw this in the hitch while airing down and plug in the trailer plug, takes all of 10 seconds.

I also thought of a glass mounted solution but anything that would be strong enough to hold it to the glass off road would probably be big enough to get in the way.

You mean something like this?

Even at night with the rear window up I can turn this on and it's not distracting to me. I can't see out of the rear window with it on at night, but that's not a concern for me.

these are available off the shelf for ~$10, just search for amber safety lights. You can also get them with magnets, it's pretty common to use for safety in some construction and mine industries.

What did you use to mount these to the headliner? Did the weight of the light bar pull the headliner down at all?

Drilled it through the roof

Surround it with a "skirt" of black opaque cardboard or thin plastic sheet that contacts the glass to contain the glare.
