Portable DVD units - recommendations

Hi

We are planning a fairly long road trip with our kids this summer (18 hours driving each way) and I don't want to spend the money right now on a built in DVD entertainment system.

Can anyone recommend a decent portable DVD system and inverter that I could purchase (less than $300) ?

thanks

I don't own one, but the Kawasaki model that Target carries looks impressive. For under $300 you get the DVD player and 2 LCD screens, each with headphone jacks and separate volume controls. The video quality of the display model in the store looks good.

I've got a Kawasaki unit that I bought on Black Friday @ Target for a ridiculous price of $170. Its 8.4" screen, comes with a remote, battery, charger and a power for ac/dc. It plays dvds, mp3 music cds and it played the dvd I burned off my computer as well.

The sound plays great through my PIE unit that sends audio through the car speakers.

I think I got that exact same deal at Target - they had a stack of about 100 of them :D We've taken it on a couple of road trips and it has exceeded expectations - I just strapped a rubber band around the hinge and it hangs at just the right height from the head rest for back seat viewing.

GG - Yeah I actually bought 2 of them that morning. 1 for me and the other for my sister so my nephew and niece can watch movies.

It was a killer deal and couldn't pass it up.

I use mine when I car pool with the guys at work.

Wow, thanks for the info folks. Can someone post the model number of the Kawasaki with the 2 LCD screens ?

We don't have Target stores here in Ontario, so I will have to try to find another reseller.

Thanks

This is hilarious. I was browsing Walmart's website and found this Durabrand dual screen DVD player (anyone know anything about this brand)

Anyway, check out the pictures of the installation (2nd row, middle picture). I thought it was worth a chuckle...looks familiar to anyone ?

Thanks Joyride, that is what I'm looking for cuz I'm affraid they might mess up during the ceiling mount unit.

Same here, plus if I go for the built-in system I want it to be the exactly what I want, no compromise. So I figured this would be a good temporary alternative for our long trip this year....

Now, if I could just find one of these units for sale in Ontario...:(

Actually I found nice dual screen DVD in both - WalMart and Sam's Club for 279 CAD. Works pretty well, even more for this price you also getting game console with 25 games :)

Do you have the brand/model # information that you can share ?

Is this the one with a screen attached to the unit and a 2nd portable screen that plugs in to one of the RCA jacks at the back ?

DVD

Yes, it is.

In first I got the one with player and 2 DVD screens, however it is to much mess in the back, just to much wires.

The one with DVD player/screen plus additional TFT screen is better to eliminate this kind of problem... :)

It plays everything except Divx :( and it is 279 in WalMart and Sam's Club as I mentioned earlier.

The best solution for T4R is to incorporate screens into the headrests, however it is little bit to pricey :(
