Porting heads and different cams on a 3.0L ?

How well do the 3.0L heads respond to a mild p&p job? I haven't seen the heads off of my '92 runner yet but I was wondering who had experience porting them with good results? I am familiar with porting done on subaru's so a set of yota heads shouldn't be too much different. Also I had considered sending the cams to delta camshaft to get a torque or mid range cam grind done on them. Any experience with either would be great before I tear into it.

Also what head gaskets are best for getting the best seal and life out of them when I go to put it back together?

Well I figured a few things out and I am going to start digging away at a yota I spotted in the junkyard. Also I am toying with the idea of fabbing in a supercharger.

Porting

I just did an extensive port job on both of the heads on my son's engine.
I bought him his 4runner in march with a knocking engine, it's a 91 that is in mint condition.

Anyway, I purchased another engine that was rebuilt and yanked the heads and ported the intake and exhaust ports to the size of the gasket openings.

The only thing that I was not able to do was a comparison as the runner was bought with a knocking motor and I was unable to drive it.

Anyways, today was the first time I drove it after I got it running two days ago. What I have noticed is that the engine does not have a massive amount of passing power on the hwy, I tried to merge onto the interstate this evening and there was a semi coming in the lane I was heading into, I punched it and the engine was a dog.

Well, one thing I have not done yet is check the timing, I know, I know, your supposed to, when I started it the other day from the first crank it fired right up and purred like a kitten.

I'll play with the timing more and post the results later. Hopefully it's off and an adjustment will solve the dog issues.

LC Engineering is now adding porting to the 3VZ heads, not that I reccomend spending your money on it but I'm sure if you called them and acted like you wanted to buy they could fill you in on how well or not these do.
