I will be looking at a 1996 Limited 4Runner this evening and would like some opinions. It is in excellent condition, non-smoker, second owner for the last 6 years. 105,000 on odometer.
Fully loaded. Leather interior in great condition as well as carpets. Woodgrain type dash panel. Moonroof. 3.4V6 with Auto and 4WD.
Color is silver and the paint is in excellent condition. Tires have about 15-20,000 miles left on them. 16"rims with 265's. Towing package but nothing has ever been towed. Owned by a middle age women. Vehcile was service regularly at a Gateway Service Center. Car was detailed 4 times a year and any major scheduled maintenance was done by Toyota. All records of minor maintenance is available from gateway tire which I intend to look at. I will be driving the car this evening. Asking price is $11,500 which is Blue Book retail. I am considering offering $9,750-10,000 if the car is in excellent mechanical condition. NADA retail is $11,125 with trade in at $8,975.

Anything I need to take a closer look at? Timing belt change, 4wd operation, all electric's.

Any comments/opinions will be appreciated.

I'm sure you can get it for under 10k,also look to see if it has a rear diff lock since that is a nice option to have (for off roading) and helps resale value.
Make sure you give everything a test run like all the windows, sunroof, lights and of course use 4wd including 4Lo.

1996 Possible Buy

Took a look at the 4runner this evening and walked away from it. It was just as I stated, very nice condition but unfortunately the lady wanted retail price and I just wasn't willing to pay it. It is a 9+ year old 4runner that has been taken care of. Private party Blue Book value was $9,780 and she was set on her retail price of $11,500.
I already have a 1998 4Runner Limited with 53,000 on it and it looks like showroom new. I guess one 4Runner is enough for now.

wait and see if she gets that much for it. i highly doubt she will, maybe you can pick it up for less than 10 when she pulls her head out

I picked up a 96 SR5 4WD V6 w/ 102K miles in prestine condition from a dealership for $6400 in Houston. It is a 5 speed though, but not bad to put around in. I would think with some looking you could find a limited w/auto tranny for less than $10K. We try to hit the dealerships at the end of the month, actually last day of the month when they are trying to get that last sale of the month locked up.

Just today I bought a '96 to replace (our rusting) '93. The '96 is an SR5, 3.4 auto, with 140,000. Leather, 3 disc changer(that works), very clean inside & out. It's been on a Toyota dealer used lot for 3 months. They had 8995 on it, I bought it today for $7200 and they are doing a timing belt & water pump due to lack of service documentation. It needs tires. I hope it's as good as the '93 has been.....but damn, that 3.0 sucks!

Ya that's a bad ass rig. If you would have had it up for sale a few weeks sooner it may be sitting in my driveway.
