Possible 6 spd Auto for 2015 Model Year?

Truthfully I was surprised Toyota did not update the transmission for 2014, especially to improve fuel economy #'s. Thoughts?

I was also thinking the same thing. The 5 speed came in 2005 , I was surprised it did not start in 2003 with the 4th gen,the 5speed in 05 , the refresh in 06. The 2015 4runner may have the 6 speed due to loss of the FJ and maybe it's cheaper to make all the same , on the other hand they need to have something special for the Lexus GX460 until it ends in 2016. So maybe 4runner stays same powetrain for 5th gen , then GX ends , 6th gen 4runner gets 6speed and ?

Hope the GX isn't canceled in America, I still need one for the wife!

Toyota is not going to be spending money on the 5th gen. It will never be a high volume vehicle like the Camry or Corrola. Toyota is content to sell 50,000 4runners a year. When they limit production they can keep the price high. There are so many die hard Toyota fans out there that they will pretty much buy whatever Toyota builds regardless of if they are keeping the vehicle up to date. They also realize that body on frame suvs are a dying breed and will not spend a lot of money on them. Once sales drop below a certain point they will discontinue it or switch it to a unibody like the Pathfinder did.

Is there a specific date that Toyota will come out with the specs and detailed information for the 2015 4R? Trying to time my purchase, and either go for a 2015 if there is anything new that I like, or try to get a 2014 for a discount. I am hoping to buy in july or august, will the 2015 information be available by then?

You aren't going to see anything new for 2015. The TRD Pro package, which will come out for the 2015 year, is featuring the same powertrain that the 5th gens have always had, nothing new. They aren't going to release another powertrain and not include it in the TRD Pro pkg.
 
at this late in the game for the 5th gen, they will only do cosmetic changes or minor interior changes.

they are only 1-2 yrs out from a new gen, why waste money on a major rework for 1-2 yrs when you can save it as a big selling point on the new 6th gen.

and the v8 in GX, they probably will save it for the upsell on the new TX.

charge 5k to upgrade from the v6 to the v8.

I realize that there won't be any major changes. But is there a date on which any minor changes for 2015 will be announced? Even just small things? Seems like every year there are at least a couple of minor changes. And at this point in 2014, it seems worth it to wait for the info on the 2015 model year. At the very least, I might be able to get a better deal on a '14 once the '15s are available. So, does anybody know when to expect an announcement?
 
From what I have come to understand from being on this forum over that past year is the only thing that will be announced post mid-cycle refresh is how much and what date they will be hitting lots.
 
well usually the order window ends around april /mayfor the current model year, pause then ramp up about a month later for new model year production.

Honestly I just don't see how V8 engines will survive the new regulations coming down the pike. I'm just praying the 4runner survives but if you look at the government mileage regs it doesn't bode well for anything that can't approach 30mpgs or more. I have a bad feeling the only low mileage vehicles will be full size trucks and everything else will be cars or crossovers. I hope I'm wrong but the mileage regs are really rough, thanks eco-nazis.
