Possible 6th GEN 4TR in 2016?

I agree with you on the need for better gas mileage for the 6th Gen. However, I hope Toyota doesn't make the 4Runner any smaller, and I would not want to see all models being equipped w/ full time 4WD. I like having the ability to decide when I want to engage 4WD. I've owned several 4WD vehicles and unless the conditions are really bad or I've decided to go off-road, I don't use it. 2WD w/ traction control is adequate.

I know you like the 4Runner, but based on your wants and requirements for a vehicle maybe the 4Runner isn't the vehicle for you. Probably going to get flamed here, but have you thought about the Murano, Infiniti FX or the Subaru Outback?

Also, I agree w/ NoDak, even though the Fortuner is built on the Hilux chasis, it looks more like a Highlander than a 4Runner.

IMO the fortuner is closest to the Prado. Looks way more like a truck than a Highlander.

Also, I wont flame you for suggesting those vehicles. But dont forget, I want to go on the beach and over some dirt trails and other non-rock-crawley off road situations. While the Murano is bigger and faster than my Rogue, it has about an inch less ground clearance believe it or not (the Rogue is 8.3") and will not be ideal for the sand.

I dont think there is anything unreasonable in wanting the newer 4Runner to be faster and more nimble... Older Pathfinders used to get praised for their agility for their size, and for that matter, so did 4th gen 4runners... And I read that the 3rd gen 4Runner was the best handling vehicle in its class. Its definitely something Toyota can do.

too me that's a highlander. giveaway is the rear wiper. cant have a roll down window with the wiper in that location. if it was attached on the bodywork then yes you could roll the window down aka, 2nd gens.

or a prado with the barn door.

Hopefully with the 2016 Tacoma debut, there will be a better idea of engine & transmission options to be expected in the 6th gen T4R.

It seems like every manufacturer has a model that they update first.
For BMW motorcycles its the R1200r or rxx00r model.
For Benz its the E class.

Looks like the new systems come out in the Tacoma. At least with regards to the mid size SUV/truck components.
I would think that the next 4Runner will follow the lead of the 2016 Tacoma.
3.5 direct injection v6, 6 speed auto. Maybe the interior and electronics too?

Thats why I got the Trail, among other reasons.
Its so funny to see reviewers rag on the 4Rnner for having a manual transfer case lever.
Do they have the slightest clue what they're talking about? Do they even realize thats what we want?

Transfer case is actuated electronically. Your lever actually actuates a solenoid operated automatic disconnecting differential or ADD. The lever replaces one switch is all. It gives an old school feel though. I've had both and I like the rotary switch better.

Sure, there is a solenoid on the front axle. The way its been done since the 80's or before.
But the transfer case is shifted by the lever, mechanically.

Not true on the Tacoma, this will be the first time it gets everything new first. The Prado was the first vehicle to receive the 3.4L, The Prado and 4runner both received the first 4.0L the same year, and the Prado received the current 4.0 first. There has been no real consistency with how and when Toyota upgrades anything. However, Toyota has typically run the 4runner for 4 years after the refresh, the 3rd gen received additional changes within those 4 years, but still 4 years between the major refresh and the next gen.
