Possible Xreas Shock Failure - What are my options?

Looks like I may have a shock failure on my Xreas system (2003), the front drivers side shock has fluid leaking from it. If it has gone bad, and if it's a high dollar fix, I will more than likely go with a new setup and lift. What options are available? The search has gave me a lot of info but I would like some up-to-date opinions gathered in one spot. I know there are a few of you that have removed the Xreas system and installed a lift using new coils and shocks/struts, what do you recommend and how has it performed? I would prefer not to use spacers and would like to have extra support in the rear for towing/loads. Any help is appreciated.

If your 4runner is still under warranty, I'd go to the dealer first to see if they'll fix it. If not, aftermarket. The stock xreas system is over $1500 last I heard.

Unfortunately no warranty, 48K miles. The more I search, I like the OME system with the option of heavier springs for the back. Does anyone know how much lift this setup provides?

I wouldn't think you would need to replace the entire system if just one "shock" is bad.

Are the shocks used in the XReas system unique to the 4Runner, or are they also used in other applications?

This system is only available on the 4Runner, but I think they can replace one.

Just get one from the "bone yard" and put it on.
That just has to be cheaper than new, and you get to keep the xreas system.
You won't drive the same without it and especially if you lift the 4r.

I knew the system was only on the 4Runner, but wasn't sure about just the "shocks".

I wonder how difficult it will be to get replacement parts 10 years from now?

The technician video for the 4Runner states that the whole system needs to be replaced if damage does occur.

The only other failure I heard of was on a 4runner that had a shitty lift kit.

When it does fail there are several different conventional systems that work very well.

You can replace just one shock/strut on an XREAS system. I just checked AllData and there's a few extra steps to install it. The parts have to come from the dealer though.

I guy on another site(Edm...com) had it happen to him. He was out of warranty due to mileage (not time). His local dealer fixed it for free anyway. You might want to try that. If that fails, call corporate. Got nothing to lose except your time. Good luck.
