Post lift issues / shock suggestions?

My dad has a 87 4runner and I just installed 1.5" ball joint spacers on the front and did the zuk mod using the coils from my 03 on the rear (roughly 4" lift over the extremely saggy rear, probably 2" over stock). I've not really driven it, but my dad has complained that the ride is very harsh/uncontrolled. He has to go much slower down dirt roads and such or it'll get away from you. It's still got OEM rear shocks which I know are shot, and has OEM replacements made by Monroe on the front (maybe a year old). I'm thinking the lift just has the shocks maxxed out and a new set would solve the issues. What are your thoughts? Any suggestions on replacement shocks on a tight budget?

I've read some decent reviews on Skyjacker and I've found a pretty good deal on the M95's ($180 for the set) but can't find much info on those in particular. They offer two versions, one for 0-2" lift and one for 3-4" lift. I'm thinking about going with the longer ones because I'm afraid the 0-2" ones won't be long enough (thinking more or less a stock replacement). Any thoughts on this?

I really really like the OME Nitrochargers on my '85 right now. The OME lift is around 2 inches, so they should be the perfect length for a ball joint spacer lift. Lots of people like the Bilstein 5150s too, but I haven't tried them yet.

I've considered both of those options, but both are more than my dad is looking to spend. After some more reading and looking at length measurements, I think I'm gonna pull the trigger on the Skyjacker M95's (0-2"). We'll see how those turn out, if they don't help I can remove the lift and the shocks will still work. Thanks.

If he's on a budget, check out the Doetsch Tech 3000s that Lowrangeoffroad sells. They're not super plush, but they're not crap either.

I've run the OMEs and Bilsteins (5125 and 5150) and both were great. There is some truth to the saying, "You get what you pay for.".

your dads set up is the exact same thing as my old set up. bj up front and 4 runner coil in rear. i ran OME shocks all around and love it. i also removed the front sway bar. took like a day to two to get used to and been running without ever since. OME are like $80 each...

N94 for rear
N98 for front.
double check but i just went back on my build page to see what i used so i could be wrong

The front shouldn't ride any different with a ball joint spacer lift.
So the rear springs are too stiff? Try putting some weight in the rear to make sure that smooths things out... if so then you may want to change to lighter springs.
