Post OME lift questions

Yesterday I installed the rear 809's and sport shocks and put about 50 miles on the truck. I will be installing the front tomorrow (hopefully).

Anyway, I had a few questions.

The ride is pretty rough. While I expected it to stiffen up some, I was hoping for a little smoother ride. I am crossing my fingers that with some additional miles things will break in and smooth out some? Maybe when I finish installing the front springs it will help even it out?

I wasnt expecting it to ride like a Cadillac, but I was a little suprised. Feels like my old 85' Yota with crappy 3" lift springs.

Also, my almost new 265/75 Duratracs look a little silly with that much lift. Reading around It looks like the springs should settle some? I gained a little over 2"s over my stock 99' tall springs.

I dont really want to jump up to 285/75's since the tires have 8k miles on them.

So, if I get this right, the rear is 2" higher than the front which still has the tall 99 highlander coils?

I probably wouldnt make any judgements until you have done the front also,

but OME is a stiffer coil, kind of too be expected

and you did the rear shocks with "sport" shocks?? what are those? are they longer than stock?

also you said you did 809's in the back, Im no expert in OME but most of the guys that I know that put OME use 890 or 891 in the back right??

yea it's probably a TYPO. I bet it was 890s. I think he's talking about the Nitro sport shock from OME. There's the comfort shock and then there's the sport shock. I heard they ride nicely, but the concept of how smooth a ride is, is solely based on the driver and its an individuals perspective so you can't really compare to others. If it's too stiff for you, then maybe the LC coils would have been better in terms of ride smoothness. Just my opinion.

got ya and ditto... love the ride with the LC coils, and my ride will be even better when I upgrade from cheapo Procomp shocks to Bilstein 5125's

So maybe he can trade in his "sport" shocks for "comfort" shocks from OME???

yup yup! How many wraps are your LC coils? I might have to ask you what part number Billies you went with because I want to be billies on all 4 corners after these used shocks get worn down and I have enough money hah! I'm thinking about making a trip to Colorado sometime this summer to visit a good friend. Hopefully we can plan out some type of wheeling adventure. and HOPEFULLY my runner will be lifted by then....

For his OME sport shocks, I don't know where he purchased them, but I'd be doubtful that they will exchange it because it's already been installed. Not sure how that would work out!

It will ride a little stiff at first especially with the fron still being stock, with that much rake and your front still stock the ass end will almost feel like it is bouncing behind you. after you complete the front it will firm up the entire vehicle which will help a little, I put the rears under load for a couple hundred miles (hockey gear, bikes, camp gear) and they softened up where I really like the way ti rides now. the sport shocks are a little more firm than the comfort, I am riding comfort in the rears and sport in the front and I like it but I will get the sport or billsteins when the time comes.

Yea, there are some typo's in there. The rears are the 890's and the shocks are the OME sports. I ordered everything through Toytec through a dealer (got a great deal), but I wasnt asked which shocks I prefered, just got the Sport ones.

I assumed it was too quick to pass judgement with the front still stock. I am sure its completely unbalanced with worn out (164k) springs and shocks in the front end.

I have some weight plates that I can throw in the rear to help it settle a little quicker.

I almost got the 906's for the rear. Do they ride that much better, or would it still be similar to what I am experiencing, just less lift?

Once the whole lift is on, if it's still too stiff it will help to let a little air out of your tires. The 35-40 psi range for on road feels good IMO. The OME set up is perfectly stiff off road with your tires aired down in the 10-15 psi range and that's what it was primarily designed for - dirt. The ride will soften up a little over the next few months too.

Okay. Right now my tires are at 35psi.

I think I was used to the nice soft ride of my stock setup so it will take me a bit to get used to it. It gives me an excuse to take it on some trails to get things loosened up some.

I just had horrible flashbacks of my 85' on NWOR lift springs. My ass would actually leave the seat when I hit bumps on the highway. For some reason I never had an issue with the ride of my lifted Cherokee's, even with 3" AAL's. Weird.

I was suprised that my stock rear shocks were still good with the amount of miles on them. I will be selling all of it soon of anyone is interested in tall' 99' coils with shocks.
