Post Your Skid Plate Pictures!

I've got a set of Shrockworks Skid Plates that are on the way currently so I'm looking for some pictures of everyone's aftermarket skid plates to help me decide what color to go with at the powder coater. I'll probably go with black to match my truck, but I kinda like the flat gray look some have gone with as well.

Post up some pics and show off your skid plates!

Maybe I'll turn this thread into something similar to the bumper and slider threads that we have on here comparing the different skid plate options if I get some good responses.

I don't know if Id spend time/money powder coating...if you spray can them you can touch them up when they look like sh*t after a few good scraps...unless you have a hook-up on the powder coating of course:becky:

Not Shrockworks, but here's my JAOS plate. Raw 304 stainless, I think silver looks the best on almost any truck. If you want more pics let me know, and hopefully this helps.

I used to have that same skid. It won't protect your rig from much more than a tumbleweed or an errant cat, but it sure looks nice, and is a great add-on for a rig that sees only mild off road adventures.

Unner, as far as your skids go, I would recommend that you do not spend your money on powder coating. The skids are easy enough to paint. Find a spot where you can set up a 2x4 spanned across a couple of tree branches, a fence corner, etc. Hang the skids from some rope off the 2x4, and go to town with the rattle can. Alternately you can set up a table, and put a 5 gallon bucket on top, then the skid on top of the bucket. If you put the side that faces the undercarriage on the bucket you can paint the side facing pavement and most of the other side without flipping the skid.

I've only had to re-paint my skids once, but prior to repaint I had to beat them with a sledge to straighten them out. Despite the damage from the sledge and all the rocks, etc that I'd dragged them over, the finish was still in fair condition. I painted right over the rust that had formed the second time around. I use a good self etching primer and rattle can paint like Rustoleum Pro and they're good to go.

I totally agree with this. I used some self etching primer I had laying around, then went to town w/ some flat black rustoleum professional spray paint. A lot of it. I have some DEEP gouges/scratches in the paint, but have not gotten through to the metal yet... lol

I'm cheap, so I make my own skids:

As for paint, I paint them all with 2 coats of semi-gloss black POR-15.

Those are the fanciest cheap skids I've ever seen. Probably not necessary to post a pic of my Savage skid set, since they're just rattle canned black.

Rattlecan black skids for both trucks. The older set have been scraped, bent, pounded and resprayed several times. Nothing huge, but needing touch-ups are no worries.

It's only there for looks, my truck sees more car shows than dirt roads, so no real need for protection in my case.

Thanks man, the turbo and JDM goodies are what make my truck pretty unique, and I love doing the videos on everything.

The JAOS plate extends just past where you can see the two nuts on the bottom of the plate - basically the same length as stock. No real additional protection, it's just for looks like the sport edition plate I had on before was.
