potential 4runner buyer, looking for pricing advice

I am looking at a new SUV and seriously considering a 2011 4Runner limited. My local dealer has given me three options, over the internet, for a limited that they are calling Conservatively equipped, comfortably equipped, and generously equipped. They are basically $4k off MSRP. the genorously equipped is MSRP $44k so $40k after discount. Is this a decent price? This is my first Toyota so I am not sure where they should be priced, or how far I can get them down. All three options include navigation. The difference between the conservatively equipped and the comfortably equipped is the third row and running boards and $1500, and the difference between the Comfortably equipped and generously equipped is they have different running boards and $700. Any help for a newbie is appreciated

sticker on mine was 43 and change and I paid 37500. I got limited without 4x4, I got running boards, tint, gps, and sliding tray.

When you ask for a price quote through the Internet you will get the best price. All dealers give their best prices online since they know you probably asked for an online price quote from another dealer also. Don't make purchasing a vehicle harder then it really is.

I purchased a '11 Blizzard pearl white LTD 4x4 with navi, running board, remote start, floor mats, cargo over, and wheel locks 2 weeks ago for 39,980. Sticker was 43,980. I got exactly 4K of msrp. I thought it was a decent discount but some members here have got more off. Im sure if you haggle some more, you could get another $300 off.

Playing it Smooth

When I bought my TE I had really done my homework, I knew the invoice pricing from KBB and Edmunds. I have found this information to be very good on several prior purchases. I knew about KDSS, Prado heritage, similarity to FJ, etc. The salesman called me up on a Weds and told me he had a TE and asked if I wanted to look at it. I waited a couple of days before I went down there. When I got there I made sure to be aloof and more concerned with my BlackBerry than the TE. I took it for a test drive and checked it out real good, had <5 miles on it when I was done. Then we got down to negotiations ... my ploy of looking out the window at the vehicle and grinning like goon didn't pay off:biggrin2:. Turns out that grinning is a crappy negotiating tactic. I went home with it 7.5% off MSRP. I am sure that 10% is possible.

Good luck

We purchased a 2011 T4R Limited with nav, third row seats and cargo cross bars. I believe (if i remember correctly) that we paid 39100 for it. I would not recommend buying the OEM running boards. The info on this forum seems to point toward them not really being functional. I installed Dee Zee's on mine- very functional and were not that expensive.

My advice...get the best price you can on the internet...
Then find a dealer which has the one you want on the lot. Visit the dealer a half hour before closing time and offer the dealer the internet price minus $1000.
You'll get the 4runner for the internet price minus 5 to 800 dollars.
works every time....

Wow does that make you feel like a winner? I hope someone comes into your place of business and uses your buying tactic.

Why does this actually work?...cos they're hurrying to get out of there and are willing to just get rid of you?...interesting tactic though...must give it a try...

I have heard a million tactics...go at the end of the month, drive a crappy car, bargain between dealers for the same make of car...I think the days of old have passed. I feel that all dealers now are so regulated by the manufacturer that they really do try and give you the best price they can...they all want to sell cars.

You have brain and think for yourself, thank you.

Do your homework and get your financing ahead of time, then buy it if you want it and pass if you don't ... no buyers remorse is the key to success!

save the razzle-dazzle for the bedroom

AND don't grin at the damn salesman when you're playin hardball!!!!:biggrin2:

there are other techniques: have your 4yr-old bite the guy repeatedly ... get your wife to kick him in the balls ... etc ... etc

Lol...now these are tactics that could totally work! In complete agreement with the 'no buyer's remorse' bit as well!

So I'm new here too. The wife and I are looking at a 2011 4x2 Limited with Nav, running boards, rear slide out tray (I think), etc..... They are giving me a price of $42,522. Then I said no way, they knocked it down to $40,890. So that's where they are wanting to start from. I've got a trade in that has about $7,000 equity in it, so after all said and done with all fees, taxes etc... added in, they are still giving me a price of $36,500 out the door. I still feel like this is too high for this vehicle. This will be my first dealings with Toyota also, so I don't really know where is a good place to be. I've looked at truecar and edmonds and the MSRP on those websites is showing a number that's about $2,000 less than what the dealer is telling me. Anybody have any input on this? She's really stuck on the Limited....I wanted a trail, oh well. Thanks guys. Hopefully we will become a part of this community in the next couple weeks and I can share mods with everyone.
