PC Aluminum??

I have been looking into getting my 5 stars powdercoated for some time and just now saw this thread! It is my understanding that the powdercoating creates a bond with the ferrous steel...therefore the non-magnetic nature of Aluminum make the process not possible. Is this indeed not the case?

Also, what paint did everybody use for the centercaps since they can not undergo the powdercoating?

Not to sure on the metal question but if it worked for Kruegs than I'm assuming it would work. I have not powder coated the rims yet but I used rustoleum bed liner spray for the centers. For me, I like it cause its tough and doesn't chip easily (I accidentally dropped it on the side walk when I was installing…oops!).

Not sure about the issues if true with aluminum rims, but mine sure seem OK. I actually used Plasti-Dip for the center caps and it turned out great. I actually scuffed up one of them and just hit it with another light coat of plasti dip and it looks new again. The nice thing is that Plasti Dip is a matte / flat finish that matched the powder coat pretty darn well.

I have a question about the finish.

I have a guy who offers the gloss (not interested), the satin which is smooth, and one that has a texture called the Hammer. I am between the Satin and the Hammer, however want to make sure that it looks good and will at least closely match the bumper and the sliders. Anybody have any thoughts on this?

Does your guy have any examples of Hammer finish? Im curious to know what it looks like. My guess is a bed liner type finish... Not much help but got me thinking.

I got quoted $250 plus tax for my LC80s in a gun metal gray/anthracite. Which is a slight textured finish. If I had spare wheels and tires to slap on I would do it but I can't afford any down time with my truck cus I have work and school. I'll prob just end up painting them myself cus these wheels see frequent offroad use and paint is a lot easier to fix than powder coat

Must be nice!... you could just black out all the chrome. It looks way better IMO.

This thread is really great. Most of the after market wheels come with pretty crappy paint. I am not sure if powdercoating is worth it if you already have aftermarkets but if you have used Toyota wheels then it gives them a whole new life. WOW.

I got the LC's put on today and damn they look good! I ran out of daylight to take better pic's but got to snap some after I picked it up. What do you think?

I know, I need some beefier tires but I just put these on the ride in December and can't justify buying new ones at this time… Hopefully in the near future though. :biggrin2:
