Anybody powdercoated or painted their 4th Gen SR5 or pre 06 Limited Wheels the same color as the 06-09 Limiteds? It looks like a gunmetal grey color. I'm trying to imagine how it'd look on my 04 Limited Rims. Buying the actual 18" rims is out of the question as I just had to buy 4 new 17" tires. Any idea on price to do 4? Powder vs paint? I don't really off road. If anyone did this, or something similar, and has a dorado gold pearl truck, post a pic! I want to see how it'll look!

Not sure where you are, but I paid $400 to PC my old sport wheels gun metal. It was $100 for sandblasting, $100/coat (2 coats of color and one coat of clear =$300).
I can't tell you who, but there are a couple members here with gun metal SR5/Limited wheels. You'll probably have to search though as I don't think those members post frequently.

Plasti-dip and then spray painted wheels. Roughly 25k and two years on them, not a problem yet.

Not much has changed from above pic, added 2008 Sport tube steps. Guy i bought the steps from wants to trade my roof rack for his tube roof rack. I think that is a no-brainer. The wife and kid like mine better, but what do they know. I am supposedly picking up some limited 18's friday if work permits.

The previous owner of my truck spray painted the wheels and center caps black, and then again silver on top of the black. It looked fugly. I stripped off all the paint, and tried out a few different color schemes including plasti-dip, paint over plasti-dip and paint. I settled on only painting the "windows" on the wheels with Dupli-Color Wheel Paint in Graphite. My truck is pretty stop and I keep it on the pavement. Along with the refreshed wheels, I bought some new rubber. Nitto Crossteks in P265/70/R17. B3G1 sale at NTB. So far they are great tires. And a nice looking tire too for the price.
Nice. I like the look of that. Any tips/tricks you'd recommend? I'm leaning towards plastidipping and then painting over the dip at this point simply because it seems to be durable, and for the cost of the dip it's completely removable.
I am getting my 03's stock wheels powder coated right now. They should be back around Monday. I was deciding for a while on sticking with the stock chrome look or going for a more aggressive black chrome color. In the end, I chose the standard chrome, mostly because I felt I couldn't match the center caps' color if I went with the darker black chrome.
Total price quoted for the job was 350. That's 125 for glass bead sand blasting and the rest for the powder coating. I think it's a reasonable price, considering the guy gave me a lifetime warranty, meaning he will re-coat them for free after any damage to the finish.

Do you remember what color dip, or more importantly what color wheel paint you used? How do you wash your wheels? Are they more delicate now? Any issues with brake dust sticking or anything like that? Also, will plasti dip eventually get hard or does it stay soft and rubbery forever?

Just the regular black dip! Lowes, Rust-oleum Hammered , #7214 Gray!!
I hand wash the 4runner, have used pressure washer on it, just not direct. Not delicate at all! No dust probs at all, went months not washing, when I wash you can see a slight change. Its the perfect color. Not sure, I haven't needed or had to take it off yet. I don't see there being a problem, but who knows. I love what I did to them. Many have said they can't believe how well it has held up.

Well I tried it out on my spare. I will say that plasti dip is awesome. It went on smooth and even filled in some of the blemishes on my spare wheel. I did gunmetal plasti dip and then graphite duplicolor. I liked the way the wheel looked, but I didn't like the way it looked with my truck color (dorado gold pearl). The duplicolor made it really pretty difficult to get the plasti dip off, but it did all come off. This leads me to believe
that it would have definitely held up over the long run if I decided to leave it on the wheels. Now I'm itching to try something different... I always thought the dark grey would look good with my truck, but now i'm beginning to think I was just in love with the 18" 06-09 wheels. Here's how it turned out.

All in all I think the wheel turned out good, but I just wasn't sold on the color combo with the truck.
Yea I may do some experimenting this weekend. I didn't even bother taking a wheel off to actually try it out. It was too dark and looked fake in person. The paint job was good, it just looked cheap.
I also broke my foot and sprained my knee water skiing last weekend. Trying to keep the bending and crouching to a minimum. It's a miracle I was even able to get the spare tire out from under the truck!:crutch::crutch:
