Powdercoat Roof Rails?

This is awesome. Thank you. How do you think the vinyl will hold up say with a thule cross bar rack that straps to the rails? How hard was it to wrap it and not get wrinkles. I have no experience with vinyl. Yours looks amazing.

If you mount straps or rack on it, I am sure it will leave a mark depending on the amount of pressure. Material it self is very thick, and if you leave the mount on I am sure it will be fine. Vinyl was very easy to work with, you can stretch it as you wrap it. I just started with laying it on from inner side of the bar where factory cross bars go and wrap around. I didnt get any wrinkles. Then just run razer blade to cut off excess from one end to other from cross bar channel.

I had mine powder coated last week for $100, happy how they turned out. Would have tried the vinyl, but just found this post today.

I have a 19' and took the factory rack off and replaced it with OE roof rails that I had powder coated black. Paid $50 and turned out great.

I removed mine to wrap. Whole process took about an hour on a very warm day. Didn't have to use a heat gun either.

What sheen did you end up with? I'm going to powder coat my rails in the next few weeks while I'm not driving at all and can't decide on sheen. Matte to match the trd wheels or if they should have a slight gloss to them. I'm also doing the skid plate at the same time. Decisions, decisions....

Vinyl I used was a perfect match. Link above is the one I purchased. If you have a question or a concern let me know. My friend used Rvinyl and his didn't look right so he ended up with vvivid vinyl. You just have to split the sample size in half so you get 2 6"x5ft strip.

Not sure about power coating, but it seems like some extra expense for something that is mostly cosmetic. If you do go that route, you might be able to work a deal with a local shop than can do your parts at the same time as another one and save some money on setup.

If you paint them and they get scratched, paint is cheap.

If you want tough, you might check out spray on truck bedliners.

Since nobody else is chiming in on your question, I figured I would share my findings (from reading threads on here). The general consensus on the forum seems to be whenever you install a rack, there should be some kind of sealant installed (RTV, rubber washer/gasket, etc). I would expect that is the case even if you are installing the same rack you just took off.

My runner was new when I wrapped my roof rail. When I unbolted my roof rail, there was enough blue locktight on the bolt. I just tighten it back down and I have no leak to this day. But applying some waterproofing cant be bad. I didn't need to.
