Power antenna motor

I have an 1999 4Runnner limited. The power antenna is messed up, the motor works but the antenna does go up or down and it makes the most awful noise when the vehicle is started or I am going from radio to cd. I am in the proccess of moving and I don't have time right now to do a replacement, is there a way to disable power to the antenna and still have reception. The antenna can raise and lower by hand with no resistance, so all I need to do is kill the power to the antenna motor.

just reach your hand up under the passenger side fenderwell pull the plastic back and snip the power wire for the ant.

i went through 3 of the power ants before i did the taco whip mod, and i have to say i like it, it looks better and no stupid motor to replace, might think about doing that in the furute

agreed, that was one of the first things i did to my truck. motor died so went to advance auto and replaced with a fixed antenna for around $12 i think it was. works fine

Ugh. Hate HATE power antennas. Alas, I fell in love with a car that has one. And I want to keep my truck stock. I have a '98 4R and had to replace both motor and antenna 3 times. 3 @#%! TIMES!! Fortunately, After I replaced it the first time I got a "Life of Ownership" warranty from my mechanic. So, I've only had to pay for it once.

You don't even have to cut the wire, if you get under the fender liner and trace the wire you can just pull the connector. That's what I did. No more "dying yak" sound. :D

dont cut wires u can simply remove the radio and unplug the relay box or just go to a junk yard and get a tacoma whip set up for 10 dollars
