power antenna question

My 2001 sr5 had a power antenna that raised and lowered with the power to the radio. The antenna "died" and I took it to a local car audio shop to be replaced. They replaced the antenna and claimed that the power function can only be activated by the power car being tunred on or the accessory power being on. Can anyone tell me what wire they should have tapped into to have the antenna function with the radio power? was there some kind of direct connection to the factory antenna that these knuckleheads can't find? Can someone give me the right info that I can tell these guys when I go back for the third try? Thanks
