also i have a 01 4runner and the power antenna wont go up and down anymore instead it just makes an anoying motor sound and then stops after abot 30 sec if you stand outside the truck and apply pressure it will go down however i want it to stop so i poped the hood but found no access so i was wondering if anyone knows how to get to this antenna or how to stop power to the motor so it stays up all the time thanks

You have to access the motor via the wheel well. This subject has been covered in past threads, just do a search if you need more detailed info.

Now this is a trip! I just joined too and I have the exact question, LOL!
Of course there is no seperate fuse, so I assume I have to go into the inner fenderwell to get to the motor and disconnect it? I bent my antenna and the gears must have finally stripped. I bet the fix is expensive to replace the gears, even myself.

By the way,,,Hi gang!!!! looks like a great site with good info. Hope someone can help us antenna impaired guys! Thanks, Frank
Opps, "antenna impaired",, that could hurt,,,,

Hey for all those wondering, its a cheap fix. I just picked up a new antenna mast and gear strip for 30 bucks shipped on ebay. The problem is they get bent or messed up in a car wash and wears out the plastic gears as it trys to force it down.

Most go the route of the non-powered Tacoma whip. IMO, I think it looks better too. I'm swapping out my fully functional antenna for one of these in the next few weeks. Here's a write-up:

Just ordered the parts and it's about $50 shipped from 1sttoyotaparts.com if anyone is interested.

same antenna problem

I just purchased a '97 and have the same problem. I would just like to have an antenna, it does not have to motorize up and down. Just curious what you all have decided to do? The Tacoma whip install looks like a good option.

Just got mine so I'll be installing pretty soon. I just think the Taco whip is much better so you don't have to worry about the antenna moving up and down and it just looks better.

BTW, I'll be selling my power antenna if anyone wants it.
