Power cut-out at 2500 RPM

Hello, I am a first time poster with an interesting problem. I have a '95 4 Runner with the 3.0, and 5 speed manual. Today with the engine warmed up and while driving everything was running great, I came to a stop and upon trying to accelerate again the engine would rev to 2,500 RPM and fall flat on its face as if stalling but wouldn't completely die.

If I held the clutch in and pressed the gas, the engine will rev to about 2500 and fall to about 1000 RPM (or less), and flutter like this not reving any higher. It does this while moving or parked, exactly as if it had a rev limiter set at 2500 RPM.

It idles fine and runs fine if I slowly apply throttle all the way to 2500 RPM when it starts cutting out again...

Any pointers would be greatly appreciated.

Try changing the fuel filter

See if the cat is plugged...had same issue with a couple of other trucks I own

sounds like the fuel pump is starting to go. this is a similar symptom on older CBR600RR where they wont rev pass 7k or something like that

i had a stumbling under load problem as well and my plugs were worn slap out. the oem copper plugs are supposed to be changed every 30k i believe. i bought the truck 3 years ago have put about 42k on it was told they were fresh when i bought it but when i pulled them out, they were much older than that. you could also have a bad plug wire(s) and or distributor cap and rotor if you havent checked that already.
