Weird ish...
When I had my 4runner down for a few months for painting and crap, I decided to do some casual tests on my electrical system (thinking I had some parasitic drain). Anyway, that involved a random process of disconnecting the battery, reconnecting certain components (like just the starter, then just the fuse box, etc).
In that process I also tested the door locks and windows and crap, to see if power consumption lingered after say...locking the doors, or rolling up/down the windows.
Next day I needed to get in to the car, which I had left locked in my garage from the above testing. I noticed neither of my key fobs worked for crap suddenly, despite having <1 month old batteries in both... requiring 10+ clicks 1 foot away from the car to get it to unlock.
Now that the car is back together, painted, and on the road, I've just been dealing with looking like an idiot trying to lock it when I go in to the store or whatever, no big deal. Yesterday I noticed that my drivers side door wasn't locking with the rest of the doors when I pressed lock on the fob. Today neither the drivers door or drivers side rear door lock. Also, in the last two days, I've noticed the car doesn't always give me a confirmation beep when it locks (or..when two or three of the doors lock)
Can't lock the doors reliably using the switch on the door panel either - eliminating any thought of the FOBs being nuked.
It'd be quite the coincidence if two door lock actuators failed at the same time, so I'm wondering if the factory alarm is being a wanker, I have self induced electric gremlins from my battery testing fiasco, some door sensor is trying to protect me from locking myself out, etc.
I did have the door panels off on the fronts for painting reasons (to yank mirrors) but the physical door locks move up and down with equal ease, no resistance.. plus, I never touched the drivers side rear door panel.
Thoughts appreciated. Sorry that was long winded, I really need to work on that :attention:
