Power for AOB Switch through center console

Hello! I have a switch wired up for the backup camera override mod mounted in the center console next to the rear window up/down switch. At the time of installation, I didn't care to have it lighted, but I've since changed my mind.

I was digging around and was wondering if anyone has ever sourced/tapped into the single LED that lights up the gear selector background for power? This way, the light only comes on when parking/headlights are turned on. Would there be enough power at this location to power 2 LEDs (the original gear selector background plus the LED in the AOB switch)?

Hi David,

Yes, you can use the Shift Position Indicator Back-Light to illuminate the AOB Sw. The GREEN wire is HOT and the GRAY wire is Ground! Just find a different source to Trigger your relay (like the center console cigarette lighter), and you'll be fine! 'Best to you'

Just want to be clear, the green and grey wire you're referring to are from the switch correct? Because the two wires connected to the LED backlight are yellow. Also, forgive me for asking, but what do you mean by "trigger my relay"?

A trigger is what your AOB switch supplies when turned on; it's just the voltage provided to a relay so that it can bring on your device e.g., LED Bar, winch, compressor... here's your system wiring diagram (2015 4Runner). The arrow points to the back-light LED. The wires connected to it are GREEN, POS and GRAY, NEG.



The switch connected to these wires will illuminate whenever the Parking/Head-lights are on! Best of luck,

Thanks for the diagram Greg! It's becoming more clear now. Since I've already wired the switch to turn on/off the back up camera, I should be fine? just tap into the green wire and ground the black wire (coming from the AOB switch)?

Yes you can do it that way, but the Dimmer dial (rheostat) works through the Gray wire; so you won't be able to dim the new AOB switch Etched face back-light with the other factory accessories wrt dimming them together, not a big deal to me unless you need them to do that!

To get into the illumination circuit you can also get it from the 22 wire connector which is to the right of the shift lever ( under the panel). This feeds the factory heated seat switches and if you don't have heated seats the wires are there and free. You won't need to tap into any wires.
