Power leather seat problems.

Are any of you having problems with the power seat switches on the leather seats. My 1998 Limited has 103,000 miles and while the seats don't look to be in the best shape, I wouldn't expect them to be falling apart so soon. I realize this could be due to excess wear and carelessness by the previous owner(s) but I have lost my lumbar switch on the drivers seat and the slide switch on both the driver and passenger.

My dad is the Parts Manager at the local Toyota dealer, and he says that I cannot order just the switch covers seperately I would have to order the entire switch. I'm going to go there tomorrow and check to make sure he knows what I am talking about, but I hope he is wrong because there are NO 4Runners in junkyards anywhere close to here.

The lumbar switch going out seems pretty common on the 3rd gens. I swapped some power leathers into my 00 and the lumbar switch only worked occasionally and would often pop out of the hole it fits into. I never had an issue with anything else though, and when I got the seats there must have been a pound of sand in each, but they still worked fine. Have you tried popping the cover off the see if perhaps it is broken and not moving the piece it is supposed to.

I've got a 98 Limited also and the lumbar switch is broken. My buddy has a 99 Limited and his is broken as well. I doubt you'll find a working one unless you order from the factory. Good luck.

try a yard

Local wrecking yard close to me just took in two 1998 4Runners

I would guess you have some wrecking yards near you to check out but if not try these guys. I can help you by picking up and/or shipping if you find what you need.

I am not affiliated with them, just happened to be driving by when the Runners came in. One is a SR5 I believe and one was a Limited.

Thanks a ton! Finding a 4Runner around here in a wrecking yard is normally not an option. One place said that they did have 1 4Runner but he couldn't tell me if it even had leather seats, said I would have to come out and look and they are like 30 minutes away. I know it'll be an SR5 when I get there too..lol.

Thanks again Ron, and I will be calling you if they have what I need.
