Power lock Troubles...

After sitting out in the sun from 7 to 12:30 my 97's power locks refuse to unlock. I can unlock the front door with the key, but then have to reach around to the Driver side passenger door to unlock it.. any suggestions on what it is and how to fix it? It seems like it has something to do with the doors getting too hot (being black they heat up easier) Help :shrug:

My Driver's side rear door had this problem out of the blue. When I took the door panel off to inspect it some of the black tar substance (that secures the water guard on the inside of the door) had melted and attached to the rod that is pushed by the lock motor. A little rubbing alcohol made short work of the gunk and now I haven't had the problem since. Good luck!

Had this problem since day 1...

Looks like the only way to fix it is to replace the door lock actuators.

That doesn't sound cheap or fun

Thanks for the replies, I think I'm going to try the Rubbing alcohol route since I have taken the door panels off many times (aftermarket speakers) and can do it rather quickly. Ill post after tryin it out :zoom:

Just WD-40'd up the two rear doors and it seemed to free up the actual linkage in the door but who knows if it did the trick, have to wait till the doors heat up and go test it! Also is it a big deal if the waterproofing plastic is not fully sealed on in some places? could i just use some super glue or some kind of adhesive to stick it back on? Thanks for all the help
