Power Locks on 98 issue????

I would appreciate if someone could offer a solution. I would rather fix this myself and save getting ripped off by the dealer.

When I purchased my 98 4R about a month ago, the seller mentioned that for some reason the alarm when activated, does not trigger my power locks to lock. You have to manually hit the door lock switch then close the door and hit the alarm. Just to add, when I deactivate my alarm the locks unlock just fine!

Conclusion: my power locks do work as I can lock/unlock my doors with the door switch. This must mean my alarm system is faulty somewhere.

the purpose of this thread is to solve a problem related to the power locks but I thought I would add the info above as it may be important.

The problem is with the drivers side key lock. When you insert the key and turn to lock position, the doors should all lock! Not the case for me. When I turn the key to unlock, they all unlock!! Trying the same thing on passenger door, both lock and unlock work perfectly fine.

So question in this thread has finally arrived.....does anybody know how to fix the key lock problem on the drivers side? Or is this somehow related to my alarm problem too???

might be a loose wire in either the alarm plug or the door lock relay/switch. fyi when you turn the key once in drivers door, it unlocks the drivers door, twice unlocks all.
I would do a careful inspection of wires/ splices to check for loose connections.
You could use a volt meter to determine which wire energizes when you press unlock and trace the connections.

It could be a Canadian thing - 3 of the T4R's that me and my friends have had all had the same problem. It wasnt specific to the 4rd gen.

Apparently the alarm module was partially fried due to those lovely CDN winters and road salt.

Unrelated but worth a mention:

Question: When your driver's side door is open - do the cabin lights come on?

The problem with my 3rd gen T4R was that the door switch was FUBARed and needed to be replaced. A $25 part - and about a 10 min fix.

Typical to 3rd gens (well...at least mine and a buddy)

Thanks for the info guys! I will take a look at the electrical to find out. My alarm seems to be after market.

To touch on the canadian thing, weather may have something to do with it, who knows but funny enough my 4R is an American model.

I will let you guys know what I find.

On my 96 ltd, i have the factory alarm too, i have to turn the key TWICE to lock all of the doors, if i turn it once only the one door locks, but all unlock with one turn, and for the remote not locking the doors i dunno?
