Power rear hatch?

Is this true? I couldn't find anything to back this up. It is part of a review of the 06 by automotive.com 2nd to last paragraph in the Interior section:

"The hatch itself also has a power opener, which is great when running up with an armload in nasty weather. An electric power-close function sucks the hatch shut and ensures secure sealing without slamming."

I believe they are talking about the window itself since it opens with the remote. The gate does not have a power opener, not unless the limited has it. My 06' sport does not have that function.

There isn't a power opener. I think the guy writing the article assumed there was one, probably because he thought the power close feature would close the door from a fully open position. In reality, the power close only operates for the last couple of inches, preventing the door from slamming shut.

The Lexus Web site doesn't even mention an opener for the GX.

i believe that paragraph was copied from somewhere else like "sienna".
My uncle has a sienna limited which is with a power tailgate opening capability.
It can be operated from remote control or from inside of vehicle.
it does not exist in 4Runner SE

The latch has both power release and what's called power cinch. Power cinch moves the ratchet from secondary to primary position. (The ratchet is the rotary part in the latch that engages the striker)

A power liftgate system would use a latch just like this. But the 4runner is missing the mechanism that moves the gate to and from full open.

I beleive the rx330 have an opening/closing hatch. I have a limited and it just closes it shut for the last few inches. its awsome though...

While it may seem like the latch powers for the last few inches, the actual cinching distance is about 8mm -- which is the distance between secondary and prmary positions of the latch.

It does. It's got a pretty big motor, too, because that door is pretty heavy (and it's smaller than the 4Runner's door).
It's supposed to have that auto-reverse safety feature, but it takes so much torque to lift the door that something as small as a human being will never stop it and make it reverse!
The motor on the back door of a Sienna must be gigantic.

I think what he means by, "power opener" is the ability of the hatch door to be unlatched by a simple touch of the underside of the rear door handle. As soon as you gently press it, the door automatically unlatches itself from the lock position.

Thanks for the clarity guys. I will check this out when I pick up my Titanium Metallic V8 $wd Limited next week.
I had an RX400h as a loaner when I took my IS250 in for maitenance. It had the power rear hatch and I just had to test the safety feature. I had to apply so much pressure with my arm that I think it would not stop before squeezing a child in two. I thought about puting a wooden broom stick in there to see if it would snap but never got around to it.
