Power rear window problem (4th gen)...

My rear window hasn't been working for a while (and NO the window lock button isn't pressed in). It's not obvious which fuse the rear window is on, so I checked all of them, and they all look OK.

Anybody know for sure which fuse it's on, or if there's any other obvious things I should check before I go to the next step?

Fuses

I would try replacing the right fuse anyway. Sometimes fuses will appear to be OK but are not.

See the attached diagram. The rear window and side windows are on the same 30A POWER fuse under the dash. Do your side windows work OK? Does it work with any of the 3 ways to trigger it (dash switch, key fob or physical key in rear hatch?)

Duh, I should've tried those before posting, totally forgot since I don't use the factory key fob, and never tried the key to operate the window...

Both of those methods WORK properly. With key in hatch, window goes fully down and fully up. Key fob lowers window when vehicle is unlocked as it should.

I guess there might be a bad connection in the switch up front then?

Took it in to the dealership for it's final pre-warranty expiration service. Had them look at the rear window switch. They said they could not operate the window by any of the 3 possible ways. I was surprised, and told them the key recently worked for me as did the key fob window down button. But when I tried to show them, neither of those methods worked. They say it needs a new ECU. Cost is around $300 installed. Lucky me, again. (last year I had to cough up $1200 for a new rear air susp. ECU and sensor)

Oh and my rear defrost/side mirror defrost doesn't work either. I read somewhere that it doesn't work if the rear window is down, so maybe my rear window is not quite 100% up and has disabled it. Hopefully when I replace the ECU this problem goes away too....

That's correct.
So is this covered by warranty?

No, none of those ECU's or electrical components are covered by the powertrain warranty unfortunately.

Maybe its not the fuse problem. Have you try taking out the door panel and check inside of door? Maybe its the window motor.

2003 Limited, 150k, V8 4wd

Situation
I have lost power to my rear window: window will not go down with fob or dash button, window lock button is not depressed, and rear windshield wiper does not respond. I tried the "hold the dash button up 15sec then down 15sec" without any change. I've called the fuse box several less than flattering names, without improvement of the situation.

Background
I'm admittedly a novice on auto repairs, but I understand the concept of replacing fuses (having blown one when replacing my interiors with LEDs.)

Assesment
Could this be the source of the issue? All fuses that I have pulled whose descriptions even mildly reference rear, power, or window, look to be in tact. If this is a fusaroni, which one?

Door opens and locks as usual

I have tried multiple things and variations of things as well:
Disconnecting battery and attempting to reset
Looked at all the fuses
Removed the back panel and tried to find any cracks/breaks in wiring
Pulled the roof panel down as well to see if anything was amiss
Read about "resetting the breaker" in a circuit breaker next to the fuse box. Didn't see anything that could be considered a reset for a breaker.
Playing with the rear wiper while trying to raise the window
Pushing the switch and then trying to raise the window, in case it is not fully up

Nothing works. I can hear clicking from the hatch when I attempt to raise or lower the window with the dash switch but hear nothing when using the fob or key in the rear lock.

I pulled the panel off again last night and looked around and there is some corrosion on the window regulator and components. There is no rust on the door itself so i figure the seal on the rear window was letting in moisture.

I have looked at replacing the window motor and the wiper motor but damn, those things are expensive. I have even been shopping around for a complete rear hatch but after reading some other posts, I don't know if that will rectify the problem either.

For a couple of months before, the wiper was working intermittently or would stutter before it started so now i wonder if it that is pooched and somehow it is affecting the window and other functions?

Has anyone else had any luck in replacing the wiper motor and then miraculously, everything eslse works?

Reviving this old thread. I'm having this same issue. It just recently started happening and no method of rolling the window up or down is working (dash button, key fob or key in the rear door). I also noticed my rear defroster isn't working, the rear wiper isn't working, and the rear washer nozzle isn't working. Essentially the only thing working on the hatch is it locks and opens fine. Did anyone figure out if replacing the rear wiper motor fix all these issues? I read that if you can manage to get the rear window to fully roll down and back up it will make the rear wiper, nozzle, and defroster work again. Let me know if this is the path I should take since I know the window lock button is not on and all the fuses are good.

Some days it will work perfectly fine and other days it won’t open and it’s not any of the safety features, I don’t have the rear whisper I or anything like that, it’s not my window lock and it’s not any of my fuses. All the other windows work properly too. I’ve opened it up numerous of times to check for bad wiring or bad relay or even the motor and all looks great and works fine. When it starts working again it works perfectly, no lag at all. I also hear the click in the back when I press the button, ohh and also my defrost doesn’t work either when the window stops working. I have noticed that when it rains really hard the next day it doesn’t work and it won’t work for up to a week or two and then randomly one day it’ll work again

Check all the connectors in the rear hatch for a good connection, they could have a bit of corrosion on them, I know the defroster connector especially can be corroded, it's what has cause some of the hatch windows to shatter on 4Th Gens because the corrosion causes the connector to get hot and the heat expands that corner of the window until it breaks, Toyota had a "enhanced warranty extension"/recall and replaced any glass that broke prior to (had to show a receipt of the replacement glass) and during the extension period.

May be your problem or not but worth unplugging the connectors cleaning if needed and reconnecting them, even if they're not corroded they still could not being making a good connection.

2008 4R Tailgate window stopped working

Seems like I am not alone... Has anyone been able to fix this?

Here are my observations:
Trying to lower the tailgate window with key: no sound, no movement
Trying to lower the tailgate window with button on remote: no sound, no movement
Trying to lower the tailgate window with button on front console: I hear something clicking in the tailgate electrical box. But no movement.
Rear wiper is not working.
I did check the correct seating of the rear wiper. I understand there is a sensor that checks the position of the rear wiper?

It all started with the tailgate lock. I close the tailgate, lock closes, few seconds later I hear the motor work again and then the tailgate didn't open. Found a trick online to reset the ECU-B by pulling the fuse. I did that for about 4 weeks. When I got tired of that I started lowering the tailgate window to reach into the little access hole to use the levers on the latch to open the tailgate. For that I had to pull that plastic dustcover sheet off a little.

After two weeks I noticed that the rear window had trouble coming up. I had to pull on it a few times to close it. (The same happened once with the passenger side window) Then it finally stopped moving and I opened up the tailgate to investigate. I found that the plastic dustcover had gotten stuck to the window and had peeled off. Maybe jamming something? I cleaned the latch which now locks again properly. All other windows and the sun-roof are working.

At this point I am blaming the motor. Is there a way to determine if it is broken with a multimeter? I cannot find a diagram that shows which of the 6 Pins is what.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

This worked for me, well partially. I can now use the key in the hatch lock to roll down the window and the remote will roll up the window. My dash switch still doesn't work. Got this from another post and it seems to be rarely mentioned.

You need 2 keys
1 key goes in the ignition and turn it to "ON"
2nd key goes in the rear hatch door using it to work all the functions of the rear door. Do the typical turn and hold down turn hold up etc etc.

A similar thing is happening to my 2007 SR5.

The rear window doesn't work from the front switch, fob, or rear key insert. (Switch worked one random time a few weeks ago and never again)

The rear wiper blade only goes maybe a quarter of the way up before pathetically falling back down (Wiper fluid works 100% of the time)

The window lock is not on

When I press the fob or twist the key insert on the back it beeps and for a quick second, it sounds like the motor engages.

I was messing with it earlier and I remembered a post I saw on here about it having something to do with the wiper blade. I pulled that out and away from the car before hitting the window button on the fob. The window opened perfectly but the wiper blade rotated 90 degrees downward and the same time. It then got stuck for a while until I tried the key insert on the back that rolled up the window and returned the wiper to what I think is the normal resting position. clearly, it's not the fuses aside for the front switch that I'm going to replace most likely.
