Power Steering Belt?

I got failed at the inspection station due to a worn power steering belt? How much would it cost to have this replaced? And where exactly is this belt located?

I think all the base model 2WDs had 2.7s, but either way the PS belt will be the one that goes around the pulley attached to the PS pump (where the PS fluid reservoir is). Not sure about the 2.7, but normally belts are cake to change.

Yea its a 4 banger, its not something I want to tackle myself, I am thinking about getting it done at the stealership

A normal shop should have no problem doing this for a lot less $$ than the stealer. Definitely not a big or complicated job.

Yea, Firestone wanted 152, and the stealership wanted 270. Pretty big difference, will definitely be getting this job done at Firestone.

Either of those seems high unless there is something vastly different on the 4 vs 6 cylinder. Took me about 30 minutes on the 6. Not sure how the belts are arranged but you should do all of them especially if one of the others has to be removed to get to the PS belt. Also I have never heard of anyone failing because of a belt.

Yea it's a pretty straight forward process. I'm new to wrenching on my own vehicle and I figured it out. You have to unbolt one bolt and on the back side of it is the "tensioner" which is a screw that allows the PowerSteering pump bracket to swivel and move closer to the engine which loosens it up. You can then just pull the belt right off the pulley's and over the fan and you got it! Replace it with a belt of the same dimensions and type. I got it done in 45 minutes INCLUDING changing the AC compressor belt which is the next belt after the PowerSteering belt. I rate it at 3/10 difficulty because for the V-6 the tensioner screw was hard to reach. Good luck

even 152 sounds like a rip off. i ordered 3 new belts from a toyota dealership total about $35? The PS belt itself shouldn't cost more than $10-15 and shouldn't take a mechanic more than a half hour to install. But if the PS belt is shot, might as well replace the other 2 belts at the same time.

I got Dayco belts. I've heard nothing but good things about them so I went with them. $20 bucks for one powere steering pump belt though. Comes with a warranty at Autozone

Those prices I listed are to replace all three belts, yea I can't believe they failed me for that, they also did it for my blacked out lights, which I expected.
