I have a 85 with push pull steering still the issue is i don't think it's working as good as it should . My 83 pickup was like butter with the same tires
I went through all knuckle joints to make sure their not to stiff and changed the pump , I'm guessing it's the box . i know what everyone is going to say change it to high steer it's just not a option right now . I also flush the fluid twice and am running lucas in it
Any tricks to clean out the box?

What is happening that makes you think it's not working as well as it should??

The stock steering will work with up to 4" of suspension lift if you have a dropped drag link.
Beyond that you really do need x-over steering.

It's not assisting enough it almost feels like 1/2ps 1/2 not power steering
its got a drop drag link and flipped j arm . it's just hard to turn . my 83 and a 88 i had both where like turning air easy breezy , but this thing is like wrestling a crocodile i don't know if drilling the restrictor in the pump would help?

You could get a little more pressure doing that, but the problem may be in the gear box. You're talking about about a 28 yr old truck, that's a lot of wear.
There is an adjustment that could tighten it up a bit.
