Power Steering Problems

I recently replaced my power steering system, ie. the pump, belt, high/low pressure lines, and rack and pinion. My issue is even after all that it still whines. It whines whenever i start it up and the engine is cold. It sounds horrible. The whine goes away when the engine warms up. Fluid level is perfect.
Anyone have any ideas what it could be?

You sure it's not the belt squaking right? Is the noise coming from the pump?

Yes. And i know its the p/s pump because it makes a noise when i accelerate, and when i turn the wheels.

Lose belt. P/S pump make noise when the wheels are turned all the way to lock. It is normal. Or, you may have an aftermarket P/S pressure hose. They make noise too.

It could also be the lower ball joints causing resistance. Have you checked them?

Probably a stupid question, but since you never mentioned it are you using power steering fluid or ATF? Power steering fluid in there would do exactly as you mentioned..

Belts are tight, no worries on that

No i have not, they seem fine but dont know how that affects the pump when the engine is cold.

Id hope not.. Just had it replaced with oem parts.

Maybe air trapped in the system?? I would think it would have bled itself by now.

I have replaced the p/s pump, hoses and rack and am having a small whinng noise coming from the pump when turning but worse than that I have lost power steering ability. I have checked to see if hoses are clogged and are fine. P/s pump is a rebuilt and know it could be this but it is moving fluid in the right direction just not sure if pressure is up to whats needed. i am using ATF as called for in my Hanes manual. I thought it could be the rack but i placed my old on beck in and same problem occurs so i am out of thoughts on the cause. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

If you sit in park and rev the engine does the power steering work/make whining noises?

If anyone can answer this please do. Can I swap a 2002 4Runner 2wd steering rack into my 2002 4Runner 4wd? I'm have a steering problem and think about replacing rack if new bushings don't fix it
