Power Steering Pulley

I need to replace my power steering pump, but have tried to no avail to remove the pulley from the old pump. I have tried to heat up the nut and am using an 18" cheater bar, but it won't budge. I finally ended up striping a little off of the nut. Any tricks to this? Ive never had a pulley give me this much trouble.

Hmm, doesn't seem like you could get a hacksaw in there to cut into the nut then break it out...maybe a nut splitter could catch enough of it to break it out?

I ended up just giving up and cut a chunk out of the pulley with a torch to get to the retention bolt. Once I got the pump out, the nut cam of with a shot from the impact. The pulley is pressed on to the shaft. The whole thing was a joy.

I was working on a boat engine tonight trying to pull a flywheel...same problem you where having. I literally ripped the outside 2 inches off of it...this was after heating, lubricating, leaving a pull load for 1 day on it...nothing worked! I figured what the heck and just kept cranking on the 3-jaw puller...now I have this stub STILL attached to the crank I'm going to have to grind off.

I feel your pain...and it sucks.:frisky:
