Power Steering Pump Options

It is very likely that I need to replace my power steering pump. I still have to try flushing the system but I don't have much hope. The noise is getting pretty bad. I just bought the truck and it came that way so I have no idea how long it's been ignored.

Have any of you guys replaced yours? What did you replace them with? Are you happy with the result? Looks like RockAuto has a few options but I'd like somebody to vouch for the quality of one of them before I choose.

Any opinions would be welcomed. Thanks.

Thanks. That is why I'm asking for opinions. Obviously at $270 the OEM pump isn't out of reach. However, like any other OEM part that I've priced from Toyota, it's roughly 3 times what non-OEM parts go for. The average price for a non-OEM option in this case is about $100.

If somebody chimes in and says that they installed the ACDelco or Cardone versions and really wished they didn't then I obviously have my answer. However, if somebody chimes in and says they went aftermarket and was happy they did so, then I can save a few hundred dollars and put it into some of the other small issues that I inherited from the previous owner.

See if Carquest or your local parts store has the Denso units in stock or they can order them. They would be the closest to factory parts. I've had mixed results with some of the lower priced rebuilt items.
 
I went with a reman from Autozone and found it did not have some of the parts that was on the OEM pump. The part that was missing was a sensor of some kind. Transferred the missing part off the old pump to the new reman and installed on the truck. Had power steering for a whole 30 seconds and it stopped working. I uninstalled the reman, returned it back to Autozone and went to Toyota and bought a OEM. Installed it and it has been good to go for over 30k miles.

Based on this, I would stay away from the remanufactured pumps and get a new one.

X2. My reman is starting to bind/be crappy after a few months.
 
Which remanufactured unit did you get?

I had pretty good luck with car-part.com when looking for certain parts for my 1995 Tacoma. For kicks I just looked for a low-mileage OEM PS pump and there were many options that were less than $100 including shipping. Many had less than 40k miles on them. I have to admit that I'm pretty tempted to buy one used from somebody in the southern half of the US.

I want to say cardone. It was from advance auto.
 
I just bought a low mileage used OEM PS Pump from a guy on eBay with outstanding feedback. It comes with a warranty, free shipping, and he allows returns. Same prices as the cheapest of the non-OEM rebuilds. It'll be here in a few days.

What parts do I need to get from the dealer to ensure a good connection. I know there are gaskets/bushings of some sort but the woman that works the parts counter at my dealership is an idiot and if I don't get very specific with her (like actual part numbers) she always orders me the wrong things.

What makes you think you need to replace the PS pump?

I'm starting to think the same of my '96.. Until it's very "warmed-up", I hear a hum when I turn the steering wheel at low speeds. I don't feel any difference in the amount of resistance or force it takes to turn the steering wheel, and the reservoir is at a normal fluid level.
 
Mine is way more than a hum. It's a constant moderately high pitched sound that increases and decreases with engine RPM. When I turn the wheel it changes tone but never goes away.
 
I'm sure that you've heard the whining sound that some PS pumps make wgen you turn the wheel all the way to one side and can't go any further? It's that sound but all the time and it gets louder as the engine RPMs increase.
 
I uninstalled the reman, returned it back to Autozone and went to Toyota and bought a OEM.
