Power sterling fluid

For some reason I'm thinking you need/want Toyota brand PS fluid. Something about the type they used in the 4th gen. Its either PS or Brake, can't remember which.

Re-Power Steering Fluid

I know the manual recommends Dextron 3, but this is not available in my area. The type I use is ABRO. How good is this?

2003 Repair manual states:
"If necessary, add fluid.
Fluid: ATF DEXRON II or III."

If you own a 4th gen 4R, that's the only thing I'd use and it's pretty much available everywhere, WalMart, Kmart, etc.

Not sure about previous generations.

What do you mean if necessary?? My manual stated ATF DEXRON II or III for power stearing fuild. It's even said ATF DEXRON on the PS cap.

That's what the excerpt from my manual says. I take that to mean, if you need to add fluid to your power steering reservoir, then add either ATF Dexron II or III.

You originally stated: "I just notice that my PS fluid is kind of low. What is a good brand of PS Fluid to you use on your 4R?"

Well, the answer is, you use AT Fluid Dexron II or III at least for the 4th gen.

Its not unusal to see ATF being used in a power steering systems. Similar to an AT the PS is a hydraulic system and the ATF is a non-forming hydraulic fluid properties among other things.
