A couple things to take into consideration would be setting proper backlash and having an impact driver. Everything else is pretty simple... those two things makes it a not-so-easy DIY.
 
The lockright isn't a carrier assembly like a Detroit so this one can be done fairly easily in the sense that you do not need to set the backlash. If this is your DD though, the road manners of the lockright aren't the best, although most say they get used to it. You just get what you pay for.

Don't you still have to set up the carrier backlash? Thought I read that somewhere...

Probably in the ballpark of $500 - $600 parts and labor.
 
I just installed an Aussie and the assembly and dissasembly is pretty straight forward. You will be a little overwhelmed if you have never taken a third member apart but its doable with someone mechanically inclined to support you.
 
I am installing this very thing next weekend.. Looks pretty easy really, but you have to mark stuff before you take it apart. No need to do preload, or backlash form what I am told.. I have a buddy that just did it on his Gen 1 Taco.. couple of hours really. I can take pics, and document if needed..

I am STOKED about getting the lockright in the back. Gotta have it for those climbs, wheeling June 26th-27th this month. :D

Sure thing, look for it Next week! I don't know if you have seen them in action, but they are awesome! The drive pretty good too, but make some funky noises sometimes.

Thats a Long drive for me.. No, just Brazos Valley Offroad Ranch here in Bryan, TX. BVORR for short, you can google it for You Tube videos, it was an old Quarry turned into an offroad park. Going with a bunch of Tacomas, trying out the new locker after it's put in. Hope like hell, I can do most of the stuff without having to be lifted. Short Wheel base on the 4Runner, should do ok I think..

oh cool...yeah the EC4RJ is the same weekend...hoping to see a few of these T4R guys there
