Pre- Tacoma trucks

When was the Hilux brought to North America? or what pre Tacomas were built here? Still see a lot of older Toyotas on the road.

Darn...I think I use to know the answer to this.

I once took the NUMMI tour over at Fremont, California.
 
1969 was when the Hilux name was introduced. It was dropped in 1976 and was just known as "Truck".

The 1991-94 trucks were built at NUMMI, but I think the majority of them came from Japan, unlike say the Camry where the bulk of the production is in the US. The pre-Tacoma was a better built truck than the Tacoma, it had a fully boxed frame unlike the Taco.
