Alright here it goes.

So I bought my stock 2000 Limited 4Runner a couple months back and now I think it's time to get some major improvements. So I've been doing my research for a while now and I think I have all I need to start knocking off my suspension check list.

Here's my check list so far:

I already have some 7.5 Wrap Coils I was able to obtain from a 94 Land Cruiser that I plan on using on the rear. So that's a Check already!

Right Front Spring

BILSTEIN 5100 HEIGHT ADJUSTABLE FRONT SHOCK PAIR 24-248730

BILSTEIN 5100 REAR SHOCK PAIR for 1.5-3.0'' Lift

Energy Suspension 9.8108G 3/4" Hourglass Shock Eye Bushing Received!!

Diff Drop Kit Received!

Coil Spring Isolator Pads Received!

Front Bump Stops Received!

WHEELER’S SUPERBUMP™ SPACERS Received!

Rear Bump Stops

Bump Stop Drop Spacers

PERFORMANCE FRONT BRAKE LINE SET Received!

4RUNNER SINGLE REAR BRAKE LINE Received!

Panhard Drop Kit Received!

Parking Brake Cable Rear Axle Bracket Received!

Front/Rear double-disconnects Sway Bar Links Received!

LIGHT RACING Upper Control Arm Set

Fully Adjustable Trac/PanHard Bar Received!

And that's all I have so far! Anything else you guys catch that I'm missing please let me know! :)

:thanks:

1. how much lift do you intend to get. you may need adjustable UCAs if more than 2.5" lift.
2. how much weight up front and at the back do you have right now, and how heavy are you planning for the near and intermediate future?
3. what kind of ride comfort do you expect or looking at?

I just added that on the list right before you replied. I included the UCA's and I'm not too picky on the lift yet until I get bigger tires. So depends on the size I get. But I'd be happy with a 2.5-3'' lift.

And right now it's all stock. No additional weight. I plan on installing the full set with custom front/rear bumpers and sliders.

And I just want a comfortable yet reliable and flexible setup. I do enjoy off-roading and once I get it all ready I'll go a lot more for sure! I did some research comparing the OME's and the 5100's and I think the 5100's win my vote. But hey I don't know that much.

3" is the max suspension lift that you can safely do without compromising the reliability and durability of the drive train and suspension parts.

if you want/need more, you'll have to add a body lift or the drop bracket lift which i believe, is permanent as you have to cut some parts of the ladder frame to bring down the front diff.

for shocks, in most cases, the bilstein 5100 or the bilstein 6112 have been found to be better in terms of ride comfort than the ome shocks.

for more coil spring options, you might like to consider Dobinsons Springs.

Also, just an FYI, since you're planning on putting armor at a later date, the front coil springs of the 4th/5th gen 4Runner and the FJC can be used on the 3rd gen 4Runner.

Adjustable rear LCA and UCA aren't necessary. See many people with them and not even adjust anything. But it's your money so if you think your axle isn't centered go for it.

I agree that UCA aren't needed. I have the 7.5/8 wraps and eibachs and don't need them. With that setup, the only thing I would consider is possibly going with coilovers up front instead. I love the rake that I have now but I'm betting once I added a front bumper, I wont like it as much. I would go with coilovers to compensate for the added weight and be able to level out the ride once all the armor is added.

My only question is about the shock bushings you on have on the list. You won't need those with brand new shocks. You WILL need the upper bushings and washers for the front though.

The OP said it will be bilstein 5100 front/rear so I think thats for the tundra bilstein 5100 rear shocks wherein you need to replace the lower mount bushing. However, if the OP buys the shocks from wheeler's off-road, those bushing won't be necessary as long as he specifies that the shocks will be used on a 4Runner.

The UCAs are for the front. I think he needs it to avoid the interference between the tundra coils and the spindle. with the SPC UCAs, one doesn't need to "align" the coils to avoid the interference.

No front ucas are needed at all for 3" lift. You lose little caster but it's bit enough to cause any issues.

the OP may also need the adjustable panhard rod or lateral control rod.
Individual Suspension Parts : Sonoran Steel, Sonoran Steel Custom Metal Fabrication L.L.C. Custom Toyota Truck Parts

also why not buy your rear bump stops and diff drop kit from Sonoran Steel?

Hello! Thanks for speaking for me while I was away you were speaking the exact same words I would say haha

Also so you're saying I need the panhard rod as well with the panhard bracket?
I have the bracket on my list but didn't read anything on the rod.

And I never heard of that website before. I'll have to compare prices and see what site is cheaper :)

Thanks!
Joshua

I spoke with Toytec when I lifted my last 4Runner (see sig for details) and they advised me to only install the drop bracket for the panhard. He said that with the adjustable one I'd likely have the driveshaft hitting the gas tank.

I ended up not getting anything and left the panhard alone. I did notice a sway when hitting big bumps at speed, but nothing unsettling. I'm not saying it's the right thing to do, just that it isn't 100% necessary.

Well they are wrong. My driveshaft hits the gas tank skid plate with their panthers drop bracket.

It is what it is

Just because it hits your skid doesn't mean they're wrong. I have their drop bracket as well, and I haven't contacted my skid once since it's been installed. It has more to do with the springs you're running than the drop bracket itself. Different springs will get the bracket welded in a different angle, and that will have a different articulation.

Ill be watching you carefully as my wife is threatening to get rid of our 3rd gen, partly because the suspension isnt the greatest.

So if it works out well for you, it may be my last chance to keep our Yota!

Ours in only 2wd so I wont need to do quite as much

I'm slowly getting parts together so it will be a bit. But I'll make a build thread once I get all I need for the suspension. I did a lot of research and I hear a bunch of positives rather than negative. So your lady should enjoy it! :)

Or sell it and get a 4x4 :clap2:

I have a 4x4

It's plenty capable!

I do need a good, reliable family carrier that will get me out to the desert and back for camping etc!
