I used Truecar.com as well to purchase my 4Runner. Once you price the car through truecar.com (USAA, AMEX, etc.), you can identify dealers in your area that are signed up for the service (truecar.com certified dealers), meaning that if they have the car you're looking for on their lot, their supposed to honor the price quoted through Truecar.com. The point of the service is that it's supposed to be a no-haggle price.

You can see statistics for your area of similarly configured 4Runners and get a feeling for what others have paid. Personally, I know I've gotten a good deal if I'm on the low end of the range of the bell curve. If the dealer you're working with is not a Truecar participant, I would start the negotiation process on the low-end of the range offered by Truecar for your area/region and see where it goes.

BTW, using the national averages in Truecar for the fully loaded SR5, $36,500 seems like a good starting point.

I hope this helps. Good luck!!

Got the deal done today and picked my my loaded SR5 in silver. Invoice + 550 got within 1000 of my trade in and took the deal and im stoked!!! This
5th gen is like a mini landcruiser compared to my 3rd gen i used to have!!

congrats now you can get hooked on this site and start making your list of mods.....................

Only two things noticed so far I don't like.... Upgraded radio lacks 6 disc has only I cd. Also for nearly 40,000 vehicle it doesn't have auto headlights?? I know picky but every vehicle I have had for 10 years have had auto on/ off headlights.

Congrats.

I think you got the standard radio - it has bluetooth, xm, mp3+wma capability, and so on. Just be glad you didn't spend the money on the only upgrade available, the nav system, because there are better options available for less in the aftermarket.

Auto headlights was my gripe too. It was standard on all Matrix models in '04 (which was what I traded in) so it's certainly a tad annoying. Even my 01 Maxima has auto-on headlights you could turn all the way off. That being said, you can drive with the headlights on all the time if you believe the highway safety data, and if you press the lock button on your remote twice it shuts them off.

What next? Are we going to be pissed that the 4R does not activate our turn signals when we turn the wheel? Seriously people, come on! It is a switch, you turn it on when it gets dark and you turn it off when it gets light, is it really that hard to do? Maybe that is why there are rest areas every 10 miles some places, that poor man driving his SUV had to reach up & turn a little knob around 7pm, it must have physically exhausted him enough to have him pull over and rest for a while. I've driven cars and have others with this feature, I don't find it all that 'amazing' or helpful. I have vision, I don't need a car to 'see' for me and say 'hey idiot, I had to turn the lights on for you because you were driving in the dark again'.

Wow, you feel better now that you got that out?
