Which light bar?

I am planning to have a prerunner bar built for my 4runner by defiant based on their long tube light bar. They don't make one yet and they are across country so I am coming up with the design via photoshop. After a few days of photoshopping and playing around, I have narrowed it down to 2 designs, which one do you like better?

i wish someone had photos of how it goes thru the lower grill and mounts to the frame. I am getting ready to start my own build with 4 lights.

^^^ those pics look familiar :D

i voted 3 but visually the outside bar covers some of the headlight. maybe drop the bar down a bit so it doesn't obscure the headlight if you want to keep the same design elements.

Also, not to screw the potential buyers of your light bar, but if you're planning to base the design off of the defiant, why don't you just strip off the powder coat, sleeve the end, extend it and weld on the top bars and new light tabs. no point in recreating something that you already have. just my two cents.

Sorry I was going to quote you on those pics but I couldn't remember who I got them from; I've had them since before I bought the bar in March.

I would really love to do that because we could build it on the truck (like I did with my other truck) and be more certain about how it's going to look unfortunately I don't have anyone around here to do the work unless I'm willing to pay a lot and drive a lot; even then powdercoating is expensive around here. If I was still in Tuscaloosa it would be easy, but Montgomery isn't very off-road/fabrication friendly.

If I can sale the "old" one for a decent price I will probably end up spending less to get the new one made by defiant. I've been talking with Paul at Defiant and he seems like he would be happy to do it; that's why the pics have all the measurements. What he is charging for the extra work is also extremely reasonable.

is this better? The out riggers don't block the highs any more, but the top of the out rigger is no longer flush with the top of the center hoop

most recent version looks dang good. got any side/profile shots of it too and is this steel or alum?

no apologies needed. I was looking at pics and it took me a second to realize where i saw them before...ha

Definitely understand the issue with the access to a good fabricator.

I like the adjusted mockup. much better in my opinion.

I wish!!! I've been trying to figure out how to get the 3D stuff to work on photoshop but I gave up. It's all tubes (cylinders) so it would be very simple but I just can't figure it out. I can only get PS to make vertical tubes and when I angle them all hell breaks loose.

.120 2" steel lower bar, 1-3/4" center hoop, & 1" out riggers

Which version are y'all talking about? the one with the center hoop is higher than the out riggers (1) - or - the center hoop and out rigger bars even and no bend in the out rigger (2)?

The one Paul has already made looks like this from the side, mine is going to have different angles from the front view but it will angle out from the grille the same as the tundra.

I like the way that looks, the 2nd version looks the best I think. Definitely would be much more interested in something like this, than just the straight light bar defiant has now...

I like the 3 light design. Although the 2 light one would be easier on the wallet. either way you can't go wrong if the design of the bar is solid.

Skyline - Actually its the same price either way, he said he would put brackets on so I space 2 in there or cram 3 like the drawing if I wanted. I already 2 PIAA 580s though, I think I can get the 3rd from somewhere for around $110. If I can't get the 3rd yet I'll just use the 2 light setup til I can afford it.

I assume the design of the hoop & outriggers is going to be just as solid as my short tube defiant bar. I stand on top of it (190+ lbs) ALL THE TIME to prove to my friends how strong it is. I don't expect to be able to withstand much more on any other option besides full bumper. I think I remember seeing that BlairB got in a minor wreck with his [defiant short tube bar] and didn't bend it.

techmen - if you're interested I'm sure he will be able to build you one like mine if you want one after you see the real thing installed on mine. As I said before he isn't charging much extra over the regular long tube bar for the extra work.

I think you should definitely go with the three light bar on the reworked design. The lower outriggers look much better IMO.

Light Bar?

I know this is an old thread but whats the word on the light bar? Is there going to be a bar like the pictures available anytime soon? I was thinking about getting a bull bar but really only need something to mount lights on and that bar definitely hit the spot.

It hasn't been made yet because I never found anyone to buy my old light bar but I have an interested buyer now and may get one in the next month.

If you email or call defiant and tell them you want what's shown in the picture they can build it for you, I think I was told $320 or $350. I discussed it with him for a while and he was happy to build it but I never got around to ordering.

Zstampe has a similar light bar and he also may make you one, but I'm not sure.

Gotcha. You still in T-town or are you back in Montgomery? I'd like to take a look at the bar in person some time. I have thought about getting one like that (as well as a pre-runner version), but wanted to see one first. If i got the regular short one, i would like to see if it could be modified where it would hold the lights where I have them now, instead of above the bumper.
